So I called up wheelfire, these weigh 26 pounds each.

Too heavy for my SL? It doesn't feel like much an upgrade in terms of weight.

As long as you don't go below 30mm and 18x8.5, unless you want your wheels sticking out of the fenders.

My car is sitting on ford cobra r wheels (legit , got it for free too ), and it has a 17x9 all around and 27mm offset. It is kinda sticking out of the fender, but it looks cool like one of them AMG SL 500. The wheels weigh about 19 lbs. each.

IMO, If you're gonna go with 18's, you might want to go for motegi or enkei since they're a bit lighter than some aftermarket wheels. If you want to go for broke, then I guess RAYS Gram Lights would be your best bet.

The XXR (formerly, Sportmax) have a wide selection of wheels that weigh under 21 lbs. each. Its a good thing to think about unsprung weight, but I guess it doesn't really matter if its just a DD.

They're enkei's too...I don't mind that they're for a DD only thing is I was gonna try and do a 1/4 mile pass sometime.

I don't think its a good idea to go for 18's on the track, wheel hop kills our car's trannies, but I guess if its just occasional track, it wouldn't hurt.

If it's 18x8.5 with a +40mm offset, a good set of 245/30 should be just about right. Of course if you want them "deep dish" look, then a +35mm offset should look right without making them stick out of the fender.
