Australia here I come (November and December)

Hi OZ people,



I have a few questions for you

- Can I pay for almost anything with a credit card in Australia?
- would you recommend cash ?
- If you use a Credit Card at an ATM do you need a pincode ?
(My experience in FL was that I didn't need the pincode
which I actually have forgotten anyway)
- Do the major hotels offer Wireless Lan ? or provide access to the internet ?
- Do you have chains like Starbucks where one can surf the internet ?

I'll fly from Wellington to Sydney, stay in Australia for 8 weeks and then return to the Netherlands, from Sydney again !

Oh yeah, I have the HP Ipaq 6915 with pre-installed TomTom do you guys know where in Sydney I could buy the Australian Map for TomTom Version 5?
Cant buy it here !

Hey there Paul,

Yep, you can pay for almost anything with a credit card (Visa, MasterCard, AMEX) in Australia. Some places may charge you a CC surcharge though. Definately carry cash with you too. I don't know what's it's like in the Netherlands, but don't expect to go everywhere and swipe your card for everything.

Most hotels will offer an ADSL service - mostly wired. Yep, we've got Starbucks down here, you'll need to get a wirelss broadband card from companies such as Telstra (major Aus Telco) for access.

Good to hear more of you guys comin over. As will said, bring both cash and credit card. When you pay for shit over a desk with your credit card, you dont need a pin. ONLY when withdrawing it from an ATM.
Your here for 8 weeks? That's more than enough time to create havoc! I'de love to help out there!
