Default Weird idle

I have a '94 3000 N/A stock. This is my first import car, having mostly owned Chevy vehicles. It was in the 40's tonight here in Alabama, so not extremely cold. I noticed when I put my car in nuetral while rolling or coasting the rpms jumped back and forth from about 1.5k to 3k. When i came to a complete stop it quit. I tought maybe it was the accelerator with a little hang up but I'm not familiar with this car yet. Is this normal? Easily fixed? or serious? Thanks.

Before GT Wizard says it, get yourself a manual. Other than that, you probably have a vacuum leak, or faulty IAC. There are tons of post about this already in here, so the search function will be your friend.

So this bouncing only happens during decel? Whats your idle when stopped? My idle is always a little high when Im holding the clutch or in neutral and still moving. Maybe about 200 revs higher than normal.

Theres another thread with a bunch of good ideas in it. The one about "Replaced engine and now idle problems"

What you are describing about your car sounds fairly similar. Its mainly while neutral and still moving or holding the cluth in 1st or 2nd gear while at low speed, like for a drive thru window. It's just the jumping freaks me out. It's not a high jump, its usually from 1.5k to 2k and back.

Unfortunately it could be a lot of things. Start with the easy stuff and work your way up to the expensive stuff. Check for vac leaks, unplugged hoses, stuff like that. Make sure your wire connectors are tight, and have the spring clip if available (Like MAF, Spark plugs, injector, etc).

Also trouble shoot your IAC. When idling at stop, and you turn on the AC, does the revs jump up a bit? Or when you are turning the wheel at a stop?

Nightviper is right. I was going to suggest the service/repair manual. This of course is not the owners manual. Because these cars are getting up in age, even if miles are low, there is plenty that will go wrong. With a little reading, you will have less panic, and will be able to address most issue with out the high cost of paying others to rip you off, and may even enjoy bringing you beast back to like new performance levels. It can be fun. You do most liely have vacuum leaks as the rubber hose have aged and dried up. There are a few thing you need to know. Every 60,000 miles, these cars MUST have a major servise called a 60K. This is new timing belt and a few other thing that go along with it. If not done, your motor WILL self destruct. I hope you are aware of this. To pay to have it done will run between $600.00 and $1000.00. Sorry, But with a little help, you can do this service your self for about 1/3 the cost. You need to know how many miles are on your plugs and wire. I am giving you all this info as you are new to these cars and could be at risk of getting burned do to lack of knowledge about these cars. People sell these cars because they do not wish to deal with the cost of proper maintainance. So it is al lways buyer be ware. Properly maaintained, there are people on this forum that are on thier 5th 60K. yep 300,000 miles. If you car is running well, you can expect 25 + miles per gallon. Good luck with you car. Welcome to the forum.
