Default timing belt question

ok, what are the chances of having to replace pistons and/or rods when the timing belt goes? I know i will be replacing anywhere between 1 and 24 valves or just getting 2 used heads, but would i need to drop the cash for a set of pistons too?

Typically not, but you can make that judgement by how big any dents in the pistons are.

I've rebuilt several engines with from 2 to 12 bent valves due to jumped timing, and have yet to see any piston or rod damage as a result.
