Ok before you say anything, i know i have a sohc LOL. but anyways im looking for a good sounding custom setup for a sohc. but how differnt are the sounds of a dohc and a sohc.
B/C i have heard several dohc sound clips and was just wondering if the sohc sounds simular. Also if you do have a sohc please tell what your setup is, thanks please excuse my ignorance. |

How obnoxious are you looking to go? There are always the ricer fart cans you can install but they don't sound good. Some people get the right sounding note with Magnaflow. I have RT/TT cat back on my SOHC and it sounds throaty but not loud... I don't know if you've ever heard a turbo 3/s's exhaust, but thats what it sounds like.
I'll try to get a clip if not. Last edited by speed3000gt : 05-03-2008 at 09:02 AM. |

I too have an sohc that i'm redoing the exhaust on because it needs to be. I don't have a big budget, so I was just going to get a universal cat, then bend and lay a bunch of 3" pipes to fit and end it with the flowmaster 40. What do other sohc drivers have?

3 inch pipes on a sohc? are you guys outta ur mind?
what spec is your car? i know with my cali spec..due to the 2 precats and main cat.. my car is still somewhat quiet.. even with my 3sx downpipe and custom striaght pipe cat back.. and are you looking for power or sound? because i had a tt borla 3inch catback on my car for a while..sounded nice..quieter then the 3inch on n/a dohcs(im guessing due to the cali spec) but i lost power due to no back pressure

for more power use 2.5 inch piping
and refer to this thread if you want sound clips: http://www.3si.org/forum/f60/sohc-exhaust-clips-415357/ |

haha there is nothing wrong with owning a sohc. you cant find a tougher motor. and if you go as far as having custom parts made you can be quite fast. but as far as exhaust goes, get 2.5 piping, and if you can go without a cat, do so. if you want a muscle sound go with flowmaster 40series. if you want the import sound, the hks mufflers sound pretty good
