I took a video of my Stealth SOHC ATX going to 100 mph from a stop. I just wanted to see if other SOHC owners have similar acceleration speeds or if mine is too slow. Take a look, it’s only 30 seconds. There isn’t any stupid music or introduction. Let me know what you think.

~7 seconds to 60 and ~21 seconds to 100 is horrible (compared to a 350z... or VR4.... but not compared to a 98 civic EX), i'm going to be honest. Auto sohc is only a 16 second car...
I have a sohc but it's MTX, making it only a little faster so i'm in the same boat as you. I have just tires and cat back for performance, sounded like u had at least cat back? Today i'm going to try and record a 0-100 see how it compares. Just so hard to shift and point the camera, and steer Main problem with the motor is that it falls flat at around 4000-4500 and you get no pull... however it is torquey right around 3000 rpm... just if it could steadily increase the torque above 3k rather than drop off. Some day I want to fix that by going intake+long tube headers+75 wet shot.. heheh.

I also have a SOHC ATX. I think my acceleration is better and I have less mods. When it comes to engine performance all I have is an Intake, cold air wall, and ground wires. I'm not saying its much better and I could just be mistaken, But yours seems slower. Did you notice any power difference with the eRam Supercharger? I heard those were gimmics and that more often than not they hurt performance. I'm not trying to down your car. This is just what I heard. Granted I might have my facts wrong.

However I am suprised at seeing what mods the tc's sohc has and how it performed, since I just saw the sig. I remember SOHC3000GT complaining about how limp his atx sohc accelerated even with BPU (similar mods to you, including full exhaust - 3sx headers and borla cat back). Perhaps the auto tranny just sucks an absurd amount of power compared to other cars? |

sohc somewhat modified

The SOHC incarnations of the 3000GT/Stealth were intended to be "economy" versions of the DOHC.... wannabe versions, if you like. They have a compression ratio of 8.9:1, old-fashioned ignition systems, with a motor that does not readily lend itself to modification (IF anyone sold parts with which to modify the SOHC).
Even with its mechanical shortcomings, the SOHC still has (surprisingly) many of the overall features of its more illustrious brothers. There were some odd corporate decisions made in the last three years of the 3000GT. One of them was to make the Base 3000GT the same mechanical specs as the old (and should perhaps have been forgotten) bottom of the line Stealth; after years of having the DOHC engine in all the 3000GT variants. Anyway, the SOHC (especially the atx version) was probably designed to be driven by lady realtors that wanted to look as though they were in a hot sports car, without the performance The SOHC has the virtue of being economical, reliable and relatively cheap to maintain. Accept the vehicle for what it is, treat it kindly and you will still have a great looking car for years to come. Of course, you are going to have to swallow your pride when a moderately-tuned snail blows your ass away at the traffic lights ![]() |

In the video you can hear my tires chirp in first, but that's about it. I'm not using the stock tires though. The tires I have on are 245/45 17 instead of 205/65 15 so they are much wider. I still have the stock tires, but use them for the winter tires I bought. Those will sit and burn for 2-3 seconds if I try to launch it. I actually did notice a performace difference with the eRam and posted all about it if you search...installation pics and all.
