My brother has owned this 93 3000gt 5 speed. He's driven the car for the past 5 years without much problems. I trash the ECU in my cavalier and it was ripped form the harness. I spend $100 in gas to drive to my brother's place and pick up the car. 4 days later, on my way home from school, the car starts jerking with a check engine light going on and off simultaneously and consistently every 20 seconds. I pull off to the side of the road and decide to turn the car off and restart it. It starts back up and died 20 feet later with a no start. I called my dad and he said the timing belt may have slipped to the point where the car wont start. The car will still turn over, but not run. I listened for the fuel pump, but the highway was loud and was not able to hear it. Is there any way I can use a jumper to read the OBD1 code? I hope if it was the timing belt, i didn't damage the valve train. ANY help is appreciated.

EH? could be a number of things, I recomend getting a OBDI reader and checking the codes, could be 1 bad reading from one sensor causing that. You can try Stealth 316 Home and reading about how to read the codes with a analog meter, but its not that easy. If you are planing on keeping the car I suggest you buy something like this.
MITSUBISHI 3000GT GTO DSM EVO VR4 PC DATALOGGING CABLE on eBay, also Chips, Performance Tuning Parts, Car Tuning Styling, Cars, Parts Vehicles (end time 02-May-08 00:23:18 BST) I have one and Im glad I do, I can check codes, and view each sensor to see how they are working. Good luck. |

Fuel pump seems to be working. I can hear it whining after i attempt to crank it. Also, anyone have a clue why I keep blowing dome light fuses? Is there a specific ground I should check? My A/C also automatically keeps coming on everytime i turn the car on, any clue on this either?

I spent the last bit of money I had in gas to pick up the car. No money till wednesday. and hell, for the money ill spend on a volt meter, it'll about break even on the datalogging cable. As badly as i've been needing a volt meter for the past year, i've never gotten around to buying one.... Also, my speedo doesnt work so i'll be checking the cable (if it's got one, not sure). Why didn't haynes or chilton's make a manual for this car?! =(

Well I had an hour or two to look at the car. I first started off by taking the timing cover off and looking at the belt. It looked good and wasn't shiny or broken teeth, so that's ruled out. I then took out the sparkplugs after cranking it over a few times and the plugs were wet, so fuel is not an issue. My grandfather then checked for spark by grounding the plug and cranking it, and no spark. I figure it's the PTU. I went to autozone to have it tested, but unfortunately, they did not have the right setup to test it. Would anyone else have any other suggestions before I buy a new PTU? I plan on buying a new one on Wednesday and replacing the coil packs as well with the spark plugs and wires. Any help is appreciated.
