Default New exhaust for a 92 SOHC

Hey my 92 base stealth needs a new exhaust system. I was wondering if theres a aftermarket downpipe for the SOHC, and what muffler will give it a good deep growl? In missouri 93 or older cars dont have to pass emissions so im going to throw on a test pipe instead of a cat converter. Any ideas?

um im not sure if there is just an aftermakret downpipe, but you can get obx headers off of ebay, i used those on my sohc and it was a reletively easy installation, and as far as muffler..a flowmaster 40 sounds good at low rpms but at high rpms it will break up alot and get raspy, you could try a header, glasspack in place of your cat for a resonator, and flowmaster 40 series muffler and see how that sounds

Wow I swear they need to sticky a DOHC exhaust topic and a SOHC exhaust topic... and have someone right a nice little article about each.

I don't have a downpipe, but I do have a cat-back exhaust (actually resonator-back, the 1st one immediately after the cat, all the way back)

My custom straight through 2.5" cat-back on my non turbo 3000GT right after a fresh wash. Revved to around 5k

3000GT sohc custom cat back exhaust clip

Figured it was relevant since you are sohc
I have a 2.5" custom to Y split, to two canisters off ebay ($40 each ones), total cat back cost was around 260$

EDIT: I wouldnt recommend any ebay headers or downpipe just because of the horror topics i've seen. To where you save a couple hundred dollars over 3sx's..... but you spend FAR more time and even have to do a bit of grinding and customization (obx headers i think u have to shave off the rear motor mount a bit?) I'd rather get the $300 3sx Downpipe and have an easy install

ive herd from xwire (on us3s) that the downpipe on 3sx will not fit on a SOHC engine?

so with that info, i have a list:
stock or obx headers
stock downpipe
glasspack
dual shot muffler

Do what you wish but I have skimmed through countless threads here (particularly SOHC related)......................

If I were to redo my exhaust... or my exhaust were still stock, and I had a grand (or whatever... I had a budget when I did mine) to spend on it:

No reason to waste a few extra hundred dollars on headers because the sohc heads and cam don't flow well enough for the price you're paying. In other words, headers would be perfect (and see more power) if you were to do a port & polish your heads and regrind your cams.

OTHERWISE

I'd get 3sx downpipe (~280 right now) -> test pipe -> leave stock resonator/premuffler (the one RIGHT after cat) -> Maximal performance single shot cat-back.

That would be the best bang for your buck. Of course you could get headers rather than downpipe, but is $200-300 extra really worth a few more HP? (I think 3sx claimed 13whp gain for downpipe, and 15-20whp gain on headers - but this was DOHC... dont quote me)
I would use either the stock resonator or get a glasspack to keep the ricey sound to a minimum. The popping noises and such.

I will edit for another option:
I'd do 3sx downpipe, test pipe, glasspack or stock resonator -> single in dual out flowmaster 40 series -> 2.5" custom Y split to dual tips.... no canisters, just some nice tips. There are some tips exactly like stock except larger (each circle is 3" rather than 2.5?).... they look niiiiice. It's called quad tip, or dual dual....................... (keep in mine the resonator or glasspack should be up to the exhaust fabricator in where it sets, before or after the flowmaster muffler)
^^^^^^^^^^^^ I'd actually do this over the single shot because of how much better it'd look.... I bet there is probably just a couple hp difference in the Well flowing single shot, to the Y split dual, like my how mine is setup.
