Wait, so they are drop in but they require modification to fit?

Seriously Audible, are you just trying to stir shit? Some people are actually trying to get good info in this thread.

Ok, to everyone else, the only expense i had was the motor. I did nothing else to the car, no tranny upgrades, no motor mount upgrades, NOTHING. So it cost me the motor and install cost, that was it.

I've had the 3.5 in the car since July of 06 and have had ZERO problems so far.

well to me.. it sounds like a viable option and an alternative to a TT swap while retaining reliability of the N/A engine

Not at all Johnny, just trying to avoid it if I can buy an engine that actually drops right in with no modification like the Pajero is supposed to. It would also save having to fab brackets and get creative with pump placement which i believe is necessary for tt converting.

It's a newly serviced engine..you AREN'T supposed to have problems if it was done right It also is far less complicated than a tt, less crap to break and or fail on you. Honestly aside from some low end pick up registered by the ole butt dyno what gains can you boast? I just don't want people thinking that this is the next best thing to a tt swap in terms of performance based on fan boi hype. The OP's question has already been answered, he can get the same reliability from a freshly maintained 72.

So wait... $2000 for 30 hp? Thats good spending?

I can get 75 hp on about $500.

Well I can see what they are saying about the low end torque, but it is just not cost effective for non-turbos (relative to a tt) when you could have similar hp for less money on a 72. Sure you won't have the immediate low end pull, but you will notice the increased power. Yes you then have to worry about reliability because you've modded it, but luckily there aren't many mods that can hurt the N/A relative to the TT. I'm sorry but 2k+ for a 30hp gain and a bit more torque is just foolish. Save the money for some bolts ons and basic servicing.

Point of fact, Brian's Modded SOHC is the fastest known SOHC that is still N/A running 15.5 @91mph. Terry's DOHC N/A has damn near every upgrade you could do to a 6G72 n/a and he runs a 150 shot with little or no problems. His times are comparable to that of a stockish -> BPU VR4. Both engines are fresh and well maintained..go figure.

Well so far its cost me $1000 more to get the 3.5L over the 3L in australia.
Total so far is about $2500
For my time, money, and effort, I'd rather have a better building block to start with for some more initial outlay.
So far its just got 10mm leads, racing belts, red rocker covers and is now getting a few things polished up.

Soon to come are the adjustable cam gears, extractors and ECU.
Not going to turbo it because I'm sure this will haul ass once its in.

Also getting a manual conversion at the same time.

Now this is going into a magna, similar to the diamante.
but this is the only website ive found with DECENT 3.5L info on here so yeah i know its not a 3000GT or stealth but same sort of thing...
