The pajero motor I got was already 10:1 compression. Stock ECU holds it just fine. What other power adders is he planning on running, doesn't look like any.

His question is can he drop the motor in and will he need a new ECU or a piggyback unit as I understand it. The answer is no, he will not. Just drop the motor in and it should run just great, because that's what I did.

I give the stock TT STL guys a run for their money, and it I wasn't ATX, it would probably be even crazier!

Now unless you are running some weird set up with turbo's or supercharger or something where you need to be messing with your Air/Fuel ratios or timing or whatever, then you won't need anything else. And since we are in the NON-TURBO ENGINE forum, I'm assuming he's not talking about power adders.

EDIT:

Alot more of the rest of your power is going to come from your intake and exhaust system. K&N FIPK, Downpipe and exhaust will probably get you more bang for your buck then playing around with an AFC.

You're an auto and you're giving the stock TT guys a run for their money??? What kind of power are you putting down... and what other modifications have you done? I can't see just a bone stock 6g74 keeping up with twin turbos... I may be wrong though. I'm also thinking about this swap, if it can be done reasonably easy (most parts transfer) and "reasonably" inexpensive- $1,500 to 2,000.

I have an MSD DIS-4, an intake and VR-4 exhaust. From a roll the TT's can only put about a car length or car and half on me. Now that's just stock though.

The best part is that I smoked one of them, (Highboosted) going uphill.

From a dig, all I do is smoke tires.

You have no idea the extra grunt that car has, everywhere. I'm not exactly anywhere near stock, but with me at 6 psi, he will gradually pull away from me.

Once I get a boost controller and actually tune my car (yes, I'm lazy), then it's rematch time.

By the time you have a boost controller,

I should have heads.

Hey man, it was all in good fun, I think I was more surprised than you!

plain and simple the stock ECU has more then enough correction to compensate for the extra displacement

the only mod needing to be done to the engine is the cutting of the block for the rear motor mount that is discussed in debt on John Monins web site

as far as the down pipe you will need to modify it some to fit with the extra width of the 3.5

by FAR the best damn mod that can be done to an NA 3000GT

Well I would definitely be interested in this... but are there aftermarket parts available for the '74? Will a lot of the 6g72 parts transfer... such as an intake, UDP and 3sx downpipe? What do you think the whp could be for a 6g74? 240? 250?

Wow, funny you should ask, I forgot I had that thing! I have the 3sx UDP, I'm waiting on OBX Headers, I already have an intake. All 3s parts.

A downpipe may need to be a little longer in the front, (contrary to popular belief) because my stock downpipe basically rests on the oilpan when its cold. When you first start the car up, it rattles pretty loud until the motor warms up and everything settles a little bit. Anyone that was at ECG can attest to what I'm talking about! Just need a spacer really.

heads are the same, intake manifold bolt up the same (74 has no EGR provisions) you really need to read on Johns site it answers most of your questions http://wrenchmonkey.com/Webpages/6G74swap.html

an intake (as in cold air) will bolt up fine
UDP, recommend using the stock 6G74 crank pulley but udp will fit
3SX DP will still have to be modified as the 3.5 is a wider engine

as far as power I have no numbers just seat of the pants power numbers, I have owned SEVERAL TT's and have two now with 3.5 turbo engines, and whitedragons automatic just amazes me the power it puts down, with my old 92 on stock engine/stock turbo's I would have to down shift into third to get away from him after the 3.5 conversion, before I would leave it in fifth and just walk him (remember it was a 98 automatic with NO MODS before the 3.5)

his car is actually fun to drive even with it being an auto
