I am also interested in this swap. It is for my friends car we are building. He has a 5 speed SOHC. We are looking at the JDM 6G74 and then getting some custom cams ground as well as running emanage or something. He currently has an intake and a testpipe back 2.5" exhaust. Probably port and polish the head as well. Just wondering what you all thought of this. It would be pretty cheap to do before we put it in the car. It would be a 100% NA motor. No nitrous, turbo etc. Would anything else be worthwhile? High compression pistons (if they are even made) etc.?

Anyone know about the ECU options???? It will take me a while to gather everything I need, but Christmas is coming up and I can get a free pass to buy stuff from the wife for myself. Will Emanage be enough? Which ECU should I use? Will my current harness fit the jdm debonaire or pajaro ECU since it works on the GT???

Wikipedia under 6g74. That would be the Montero. the Debonair is 260. Same engine different ECU. that's why I have my questions. If it's just a matter of the ECU's timing/fuel/air maps then I can use the 6g72 ECU(incase they don't send me one) for a more aggressive base map and use my Emanage to bump up timing and control the injectors and so on and so on.

I have a 3.5L DOHC 6G74 Pajero motor in my 98 SL. I'm using my stock ecu. John Monnin I believe has a page that says everything you need to do to drop the motor in. The 3.5 6G74 Block is the same for the debonair and pajero I believe. Xwire did the swap for me.
The ECU does not care what kind of block is in the car, it just tries to adjust so that it sees what it wants to see. Should be just fine with your stock ECU. Mine is.
