the only thing mitsubishi could have done to make the SOHC better...would have been to put 12 more valves on it.

because the only thing better than a 3.0L DOHC 24v; is a 3.0L SOHC 24v.

less parasitic loss, fewer rotational parts, etc. everything they've done with the MIVEC.

and the 6g72 is BOTH dohc & sohc. hate the 6g72; and you hate all places/forms it's been used in.

Yeah, I gotta laugh at that. I have a fresh motor, fully rebuilt with a .50 overbore...balanced with rebuilt OEM injectors (at WOT they run at 63% - more than enough to leave room for upgrades, and they handled 175psi on the flow bench with no leaks...just fyi) and I can't imagine beating an SS Camero. It's fast for an N/A, I love the car, but no way. No chance at beating a boosted Si or an SS.

Hell, I can barely leave a stoplight without killing the motor or spinning the tires. There's a fine line between stalling and keeping traction on the OEM tire sizes at this point. I'm about 2000 miles from the breakin point...then she goes on the dyno. The cams were slightly re-ground, and between that, the overbore and the new - rebalanced crank...I'm hoping for 160-170 at the wheels. If I hit 160, I'll be happy. 170, I'll change my pants. Realistic expectations are much better than pipe dreams. You do not want to know what a full rebuild cost me though. Oh dear lord I put WAY too much money into this car.

truthfully with on a rebuild, good clutch etc. bone stock dohc you should see about 180fwhp....in my 5spd stealth it had 130k on it and layed out 172fwhp on a slipping clutch.

So let me get this straight, the stock crank hp of the dohc is around 195-205 (~200)? Because if full boltons is 190whp, then that translated to around 220crank and surely full boltons is around 20-25whp

I see everyone complaining about the low hp of both na 6g72's yet fail to realize that it is slow by today's standards.... compare it to other NA motors of the early 90s and they are all lower 200 or less (early 90's v8 mustangs were like 230?)

i'd estimate at least 280-300 at the wheels if i could safely crank it to 14psi.
Even though you have a piggyback fuel controller, you can't turn the boost past 8 psi? How is that?

Will a downpipe really help that much. I already lost the cat and have the cold air intake on mine.

it has to do with advancing the timing too far, i believe. chris had it on the dyno safely (no knock) at 8psi...so that's what he set it to. the smic's start to get heat soaked beyond that. i could probably run 10psi, but i'm aiming for 100% reliability here, so no dice.

i'm not an expert on this stuff (consult 3sx if you want technical specifics) but i know i need the TT ecu + SAFC2 if i want to run 14psi---because the N/A ecu won't cut it.
