Default Loud Ticking Noise

Last night i was driving around and my gas light was on. The car died on me so I thought I ran out of gas. Fired it back up and creeped it to the gas station. The ticking has increased in sound. The car runs smooth just sounds like shit. Checked the timing and took the valve cover off and everything looked fine. Turned the car over without the intake and valve covers and no noise. Anyone else had this problem? ANy suggestions?

Video? Might just be the infamous lifter tick. As long as its light and sounds like its coming from the valve covers i think you're ok. If your timing is okay and if it is running fine except the noise you're probably ok. If it's not running well check for bent valves with a compression test or leakdown if you can.

Sometimes an exhaust leak will cause a tick sound. Check the manifold. It may cause it to stall but I do not think it would. I know if you have a intake leak or problem it will cause your car to stall when slowing to a stop from a move.

I just rebuilt the head a few months ago due to bending the valves because of swapping the cams. Last night I removed the rockers to find out that I had two bad lifters. Replaced them and still making a horrible nose. It is intermittent so I don't think its rod knock. I might have over looked one and I'm going to check the ones on the rear head as well tomorrow. Will post what I find out tomorrow night and take a short video a well.
