Question How to replace the starter?

I have a 99, FWD, Manual Transmission 3000GT. My starter has gone to shit and I need to replace it.

I'm not the best person with tools, so I'm wondering if there is a diagram out there that could help me with replacing the starter. I found one on stealth316.com, but that's for AWD cars.

Anybody know?

I don't think should be much diferent on a FWD, and as you can see replacing te starter can be done with your eyes close, it's very simple just do it yourselft and save some $$.

Its seriously easy. There is no need to remove the downpipe. I have pulled my starter probably 15 times now between all my trans pulls and other things and have never dropped the downpipe to do it.

Remove the two starter bolts.
Grab the starter and pull it straight out letting it sit on the downpipe.
Now nose it forward and it will slide between the downpipe and transmission.
From there undo the connections and reverse the process.

Remember to unhook the battery before attempting removal as a hot wire goes directly to the starter.

Mine fits out even thru the long tube headers. Course I find myself changing transmissions more than anything!

You too? I am on #5. Three blown diffs and a blown 2nd gear. Having the precat, being Cali spec, makes things marginally more difficult, but its definitely doable.

No problem. If there is a shield on your starter that is one step you will have to add. I removed my shield years ago and never looked back.

yes its very easy if you have a lift available, little more difficult without one but still not bad, its basically 2 bolts and a puzzle lol.
stealthee did a good job explaining it, you don't have to remove anything other then the 2 bolts holding the actual starter.
