Default Here's A Question...

I have a big question..I have a few problems, maybe it's just me.

First problem:When I got the car, the cigarette lighter does not work, at all! Plugged in my radar detector, everything, and nothing came up. Checked the connection, the light comes on at it, but nothing is powered up. What fuse number is that?

Second problem: Every time I apply power and make a right turn, my stereo (aftermarket) flips off, then comes back on. This is an intermittant problem, but no problem really, I just wanted to know.

Third problem: The wiring around my computer is becoming frayed, causing a big problem with keeping it on. I think that something's up with the wiring (Temporarily got a foam insulator and electrical tape holding it together). I may try to bring it up to Auto Velocity and see what they can say about it. (And maybe help me degrease the damn engine. It's looking like it's never been degreased before.)

Sounds like a ground wire may have come loose. I'd start checking to see if all your wires are grounded properly.

That might explain 1 and 2.

Pull the stereo out and you should be able to find the power running to the cigarette lighter. Make sure both the Ground and Power are hooked up. Also, check and make sure the grounds on your battery look alright as well as the ones going to the firewall & transmission.

Yes, possibly the ground wires are issues 1 and 2. For issue 3, I would buy 2 cans of auto degreaser. Go to one of the “quarter washes” that have a high powered pressure gun and clean the motor. Make sure all of the electronics are covered with a rag. Then, with the motor clean, tape up any exposed wires with electrical tape and cover that wire again with heat resistant flex tube.

You may need to replace the element on the lighter (the part that you stick the lighter into) I had to do it on mine when it only had 65k orig miles.

Also sounds like you have some loose connections where the stereo is hooked up or where it ties into the fuse box.

I'll take a look at the element tonight when I head up to Autozone. I have to find one of those quarter operated car washes, closest one I know is in VA, and I really wanna conserve my gas for ECG08, since finances are getting close.

Well, I had the same problem with my cigarette lighter receptacles, both(I don't know if you have 2) have their own "thermal link." If something was plugged in that made it heat up to much, that link is their to blow before you blow your fuse. Don't know why they would do that(as in make it like that, you cant do anything with them but replace the entire receptacle). The thermal link looks like a little grey piece of solder on the bottom of the body. I went to autozone and got replacement bodies(just generic ones with lights) without the thermal link in them. Worked fine after that. I can guarantee that it's not the lighter its self, the lighter doesn't provide power to your accessories.

About your stereo, I am not sure but make sure you have none of the steering wheel controls hooked up.
