Question DIY on VSS?

Im looking to change the VSS on my '94 SL myself..is there any DIY on it?

its a noob question but where is it exactly located?

like for my zx tt i can find everything on the forum tech..but for the 3000gt sl i cant seem to find on how to do it and what ill need to open etc..

help would be highly appreciated..

I don't think most spring compressor tools will work with our heads. Mitsubishi sells a specialty tool for this, and I seriously doubt most auto rental places will carry the Mitsu tool.

SL3kgt - you can also build your own valve spring compressor. Read through this thread carefully. You'll find instructions on how to build the tool and how to replace the seals. Good luck.

Valve Stem Seals (VSS) Replacement - 3SI Wiki

It is based on the thread mentioned above by HannibalZero. It still needs some work to be finished, but should give you some idea of the process.

no link and you have to remove the cams on the dohc

I recommend buying a gun and shooting yourself in the head right now.





Seriously. The VSS is the one thing on these cars that nobody can pay me to do. I still cry when I think about the torture of doing mine. I guess my fingers just arn't nimble enough to deal with the keepers.
