Default The carnage.... w/pics 56k beware

So i finally got my car all tore apart... and it isnt that pretty... so i'll just let the pictures do justice instead of words..

Heres the oil pan.... with lots of metal...and seems to be what is called...

yup! the connecting rod!

So this is where all the metal in the oil pan came from!!!

So i finally got it all apart and the head off and this is what i see!!!

I popped the piston out with a screw driver and this is what it looks like.

I find it really ironic that something major went wrong with my 3s almost exactly the same day last year my trans blew up.... heres some pictures from that too!

Anyways... the block is fine, there are no cracks, and she should be up and running again soon!

What the hell happened? Timing belt snap? Not likely since the end cap of the rod came off..

Been using 87 octane and mashing the throttle everywhere?

I kid, I kid.

Really though, what in the heck happened?

You wouldn't happen to drive a white first gen 3000GT would you?

No, my timing belt didnt snap....what happend iss...

the connecting rod bearings around the wrist pin seized up and when that happend... the rest of the engine kept wanting to keep goin, then it put a shit ton of stress on the rod and thats when it started to bend and finally just broke loose.... after that it looks like while the piston was no longer connected to the crank, the rest of the rod continued to push the piston up into the combustion chamber and thats when the valves kept pushing it back down and bent the valves all up... if you look at the top view of the piston, each one of those scores is a differnet time that the valve hit the piston : /
i have to file down the bottem of the bore where the connecting rod was broke because it chipped it away, along with the piston next to it..

But then lead me to my next question... why that bearing would have siezed up because i've always checked my oil..

and no, its a black 1st gen

Any suggestions on why there would be poor lubrication to that specific spot?

That is a very good question. How many miles are on the motor? What type of oil did you use, and which cylinder was it that the bearing seized on?

Was it the cylinder furthest away from the oil pump on the right?
Diagram:

Tranny
X O
X X
X X
T-belt

Was it the cylinder with the O marked in my goofy little diagram?

But what really seized up. You talk about bearings and hint that the wrist pin seized. There is no bearing in the WP end.

When I have seen (or had) rod failures like that they have been because of over-revving.
