Car loses power shuts down at stop light or stops - 3000GT/Stealth International Message Center

1995 Dodge Stealth RT.

Car just cuts right off as I approach stop light. When I attempt to start back up it may start up but I have to hold the gas and or keep the idle high above 1000 RPM. If I let off the gas it cuts back off. Car had been running fine forever now. Any ideas. I have about 155k on original engine.

Entire fuel assembly has been replaced recently about 4 motnhs ago.
ATX tranny replaced about 7 months ago.

If anyone can suggest anything I can try to fix that would be great. Also the check engine light did flash on during highway driving when I was trying to get the car back home tonight. It acted as if it was going to shut down while I was driving 65mph on the freeway but did not go off until I stopped again.

That sound similar to my old 3s only it actually shut off when i was on the highway it wouldnt start when i towed it home it started but i sold it "as is" never found the problem

Pull ecu an check for leaky Capacitors on the board. My 1992 did the same thing, but my check engine light stayed on. Check the MAS sensor and make sure it hasn't worked loose also. Sometimes it's a simple fix. If you need a ECU I have one for sale. MD192591 is the ECU number you need. Just PM me!!

Check the Idle Ar Controller. One of the coils might be open or shorted.

+1 on IAC... quick and easy to clean or replace. I would do that first before checking the ECU as 90% of our stalling issues are due to a nasty ass IAC.

check your ground wires also. Theres one on your alternator, and theres one that should be attached to the back of the upper plenum..

I dunno if it would be your IAC, because the engine would rev up and down if it was clogged, or malfunctioning. I could be wrong though.

I know with the turbo cars if the ypipe comes loose and you lose suction it will die at idle, or if there is a leak in the intake pipe seals. Just something to look for, check the connection to the MAF as well.

+2 on IAC. I replaced mine and it had 2 bad rings when I hit em with my multimeter. I think I have the pic on my IAC post, was moved somewhere. I think it is under Rock supporter thread now.
Simple to replace. I was having a car dying while AC is on if I hit the clutch and let the car drop to idle rpm. Replaced the IAC now I cant get teh damned thing to drop under 1K idle, unless I let the clutch out slowly with no gas.

And you are. IAC can fail in so many different ways.

I had a guy come to me who's car was idling at anywhere from 2000-2800 RPM. WHen mine failed the car would just shut off any time the idle dropped. Another kid came to me for an IAC and his idle would just fluctuate.
