I believe Mitsu actually went out of their way with child safety seats. Remember the car was designed in the late 80's, which was long before child safety in automobiles (at any age) was really considered. With that fact in mind, how many late 80's/early 90's cars had anchors for child safety seats built in to them for a more secure seat? These cars are very safe for anyone in them. You can't fault Mitsu for not being able to look in to the future to see what safety innovations were to be released.

Not bagging on ya, but I have to defend Mitsu in this particular case as I feel whoever designed the 3S at least got safety right above all else on these cars.

I used to just remove the lower portion of the rear seat, install a folded up blanket and it would give me ample room,

I have a customer who has two toddler seats in his car every time he brings it to me, and they fit tightly

HAHA you guys all suck. They make seats that contour to our buckets. My wife does at home daycare and we have 5 car seats in our Expedition and whenever she orders another I find the bucket style so I can fit them in my cars. I know this one fits for sure

Thats expensive but I bought it to be cool. Heres a regular Graco that will work also. Notice how the bottom is not flat but instead somewhat curved

NOTE: I am imbarassed to admit, but one day I was watching a saftey channel and they were installing a carseat so I was intrigued. Once installed the lady pulled the seatbelt all the way out and when it began to retract it clicked. I never pull the belt all the way out and didn't realize it actually locks as it retracts back in. Once it is retracted I put all my weight with one arm into the middle of the car seat and push down, with the other tugging on the belt to make it tight. I have never made a seat so firm before I learned this. My first child would side around sometimes in our family car if it was not tight enough. I hope this helps you.

definetely gonna need a sedan or wagon for a rear facing seat. I'm thanking God I got my car after my daughter was big enough for a forward facing seat. She's now 6 and can now use a booster seat.

A little off topic, what is the legal age for a child that has to be in a booster seat? I heard it was 7 years of age before they were not required by law. My daughter prefers to sit right in the rear seat of the 3000GT but I make her sit in a booster seat for safety.

Listen Slavaka, there's a very simple fix.

1. Disable/remove the front Passenger airbag (were they even standard in 93?)
2. Put your kid's car seat in the front
3. Tell your wife that you will never sell the car, and for merely suggesting it she will ride in the back seat for the next 18 years.

Just buy an Intrepid. Those things are dirt cheap nowadays.

(Or if you're real desperate, buy a Caravan.)

I had a 93 Concorde back in the day (It the 3000GT, to Dodge's Stealth). The 3.5L pulled pretty well for a car that weights as much as a house. It was nice for a 4 seater - has enough room for a baby's crib - but its no 3000GT.

I say keep the car. Trade the family in.
