EXACTLY.

I keep telling people this but they get the "rated numbers" stuck in there heads and think they are gaining so much. If the rated numbers were true, then sure it might be worth it. But fact is, its not a simple swap, because of all the extra crap needed, and the rated numbers are a farce.

My motto has always been: Do it right, or don't do it at all

even if you did gain 62 HP so what? Get a 50HP shot of nitrous on the SOHC if that is all you want out of the swap anyway.

I can never see pulling a perfectly good motor out of a car. If you want to swap out the SOHC make sure you get your money's worth and run it in the ground at least first.

What does an SL cost these days anyway? 3K for a good one?

Another good point.

I just know I have big plans for my car. Sure I could just go buy a VR4 and be done with it, but that takes all the fun out. Besides I have owned the car for well over 5 years now. No way I could abandon it. When I am done it will be a hell of a lot more than just a 160 hp gain.

I couldnt agree to this thread more. Honestly. I always felt that 220bhp was overrated and it didnt feel as if my car produced more than 160-170hp on the wheels.

Now im in more soup than all of you, i have a DOHC NA --- With AWD !! hehe, further power loss. Im considering a TT swap rather than sticking to ams and bolt ons.

Being in both a SOHC Auto (magna) and a DOHC manual (Magna) (Both the same engines/transmissions that these cars use in FWD) the DOHC absolutly RAPED my car in almost every aspect besides takeoff, other then that it just craps on the SOHC motor in every way.
I figured why would i spend my money on an engine which when modded would at best be the same as a stock DOHC? Thats why im doing the DOHC conversion .

I would rather have a better building block to start off with rather then spend money on a lesser engine.
As you said, do it once do it right.

Well guys, heres something to put on the table... Im making 187 in a DOHC at the wheels! I have stock pistons and what I would call stage 3 or stage 4 heads on it with headers, TT exhaust, test pipe, intake, fidanza flywheel, and AFC NEO but untuned! My injectors are maxed out at 98% to 99%. It cant keep up in fuel. The ignition is holding it back too! Hear shortly Im going to have custom exhaust system made and im putting the TT fuel system in it. After that comes a good tune on 93 octane and I will post numbers! My heads flow some serious air but the damn plenum is very restrictive! We are currently working on that! I also ran a 15.02 in the 1/4 on street tires! Maybe that will tell you a little about the DOHC compared to the SOHC. There is tons that can be done to the DOHC but for the same price FI gives more power. I like N/A so Im going to keep improving everyway that I can!
