WhiskeyIsQuick - I'd agree with that, or at least what I understood of it, I guess. I have driven 4 and 5spds for forty years, and I don't drive like granny, at all. I'm SOHC 5spd (no mods) and run all day long shifting in the 5krpm range. I have never babied my 93S, it's driven hard daily and has over 208k miles. Mechanically and cosmetically it is highly maintained. Very few cars rated under 225hp beat me to the posted speed limit. including 3S DOHC ATs and even some MTs! But I choose my victims well, so I wouldn't even try taking on a TT. I even beat a county cop to 60 on the highway. He peeled out on the green and I thought "um, play or stay?" then "hey, wait for me!". Beat him by 1.5 cars to 60 on my speedo. I think he was late for work cause he turned shortly thereafter at the station.
Hey, he started it! So, WhiskeyIsQuick, but MySOHCisQuicker

actually ive been able to get 230 to the tires on an NA bolt on cars with cams before with an afc. it is possible. i have seen an intensloy built NA 3s engine put down over 300 to the tires, it could only be run on pump gas with the timing turned way down however. To answer the question, 222 is about right to the crank on a DOHC

So is the consensus that the SOHC to DOHC swap is garbage or useless because the HP increase isn't worth is? If that's the case then my plans for my Montero Sport to go DOHC with the 96-up ecu is kaboshed.
3000GT SL DOHC 222HP @ 6400 217 FT. LBS @ 4000 10:1 compression Montero SOHC 165HP @ 5250 186 FT. LBS @ 4000 9:1 compression Diff. 57 HP 31 FT. LBS. Mind you that both engines are 24-valve varaints of the 6G72 engine. The Montero has no knock sensor however. If this is the arguement from what I've read then how come for some cheap thrills and the SOHC guys aren't going after the 24-valve SOHC heads from the Montero lineups?

who cares about swapping from SOHC to DOHC. As has been said ELEVENTY billion times just go DOHC TT if you want to get your money's worth.
