I dont know. It sounds like someone's trying to convince himself that the SOHC is in the same league as the DOHC. I am NOT the most knowledgable when it comes to these engines- but I know that on my way to work everyday I come across a red 96-98 3000GT that I spank, red light to red light, everyday. And once we're on Brother Blvd, forget it.

theres no "convincing myself" since there are brazen facts.

Numbers dont lie

FACT DOHC dynos 170 to the wheels stock
FACT SOHC has shown to dyno 150 to the wheels stock

Another fact, youre probly racing an automatic. Fact is they are slow as balls from a dig. Thats why MTX SOHC's spank ATX DOHC's in stop light to stop light and 1/4 mile racing. I'll do a stop light race with ya. I'll probly be right at your door the whole time. I've raced and beaten ATX as well as MTX DOHC's

years ago we had a Alabama 3s meet in Huntsville and we were doing some night races at the old airport and on that outing there was a green base SOHC that took out a DOHC atx consistantly.

At that airport I was getting up to about 105ish before I had to hit the brakes so they had to be doing in the low 90's when they shut down.

It was about a 1/4 mile race. The SOHC beat the ATX everytime, convincingly. I was shocked, but it happens, and it was a ATX so there couldn't be any driver error.

Not shocking at all really, the ATX gearing KILLS the low end of these low displacement cars. My car doesn't wake up until around the middle of second gear, and then it screams.... Probably great for races from 75 to 120, but in regular stoplight to stoplight or yes, even the 1/4 mile at these power levels it really slows you down.

That's what I've been saying for years; Mits skinned the SOHC and padded the DOHC to sell more "upgraded" cars.
25-30hp wasn't really an edge. So they claimed 50-60hp.

So I reread the thread and have no clue what your post has to do with it. We are talking about hp numbers. You a seem to be ranting about anything and didnt seem to stay on any one subject.

And a little note. Your spelling wasnt horrible but your sentence and paragraph structure are on the edge of atrocious. You also seem to not know when to use capitalization. If you really want people to read your posts and take them seriously you might want to work on that.

All I'm saying is I have driven both SOHC and DOHC and fact is, there isnt a huge difference. Also as I stated in one of my posts, dynos numbers dont lie. When there is a consistent number constantly showing up of ~170whp then thats proof enough that DOHC's are overrated at 222.

And you really can't compare two completely different cars. Thing is, HP isnt the most important number but torque is. Also HP is only a deritive of torque. The really important thing is the power curve and average HP. Gearing and weight make a huge difference too.

Hell look at a DOHC ATX vs a DOHC MTX. Same HP, ATX weighs about 50 lbs more. But the MTX is at least a full second faster just because of gearing.

And yes, I drive the absolute shit out of my car. I squeeze everything out of it I can. I taught myself how to speed shift my very first car and have only improved over the years. But if I took it to a dyno, it wouldnt matter how hard it was driven. You get my point?

And on your posting skills, just take an extra minute to look at it. People tend to glaze over posts like yours because they are difficult to read. You don't have to be an English major to make things a hair more easier to read. Hell I despised English classes yet I still make an effort to make my posts readable.
