Default What is with Rod Bearings dying?

Engine with approximately 5,000 miles on it, new crank and bearings, balanced and a rod bearing goes after only a year. What is the point of upgrading pistons or rods, when it is always the bearings that go? Is there some way to make that part of the engine bullet proof? I think I'm going to rebuild this thing, so if anyone has ideas throw them out there. If I spin another rod bearing, the car is going to well, something.....

Was the oil pump replaced during the rebuild? What was the pressure when it died?

Yeah, the oil pump was replaced, oil cooler and turbos flushed, to get rid of any bearing material. Oil pressure has always been good usually 20-25psi at idle and upwards of 50-70 during cruise. I installed an electronic oil pressure guage to do away with the crap stocker. I don't know what the pressure was, because it developed a slight knock while it was being dyno tuned.

Is there a bullet proof bearing out there, clevites go just as well as stockers.

well, if it began to fail when you really started pushing it, id suspect it wasnt built properly.

But it drove just fine for 5,000 miles, and I had the engine balanced. The machine shop that did the work is good, real good. I worked with the guy on couple of peoples cars and his specialty was mostly racing engines, or thats where a lot of his customer base came from. I've had the car running 15 psi, it blew at only 8psi and a 10 afr.

Get an oil analysis done. 10:1 could get a lot of gas into the oil, especially on a fresh engine.

The rod was replaced where it had spun. The rest were fine. Would 5000 miles on an engine still be fresh, pretty much broken in by that point. I'll look into the oil analysis though.

Was the engine broken in properly? I have heard if you hot rod within the first few hundred miles of a rebuild you will have problems and spin bearings real quickly.

What A/F ratio would you recommend on a newly rebuilt engine ?
