weird noise that goes away when clutch is engaged .
When my car has warmed up and its idling i get a strange tapping noise coming from the engine bay if the car is in neutral . If I then push on the clutch it stops .
just had a new clutch , flywheel , release bearing installed . This noise existed before the new clutch but now its louder .
Any ideas ? It kinda sounds like rod knock but I know it isnt , engine was completely rebuilt 12k ago , logger does not log any phanton knock .
its weird .

Mine does the exact thing. Kormex told me that its nothing to worry about. Its a little embarasing but other than that i guess its fine. He told me what it was but i forgot
Re: weird noise that goes away when clutch is engaged .
welcome to the club, vr4dave and I have been scratching our heads on this one for awhile... probably 6 transmissions between us over the years and they all did this.
Re: weird noise that goes away when clutch is engaged .
hmmm so i`ll ignore it then . It was kinda alarming to hear it louder today , i thought i`d spun a bearing coming down the highway to work .
I find myself constantly listening for new noises
The throw out bearing has just been replaced . I`m wondering if it isn`t the fork that the bearing slots onto . It looked a little worn whe it was being reassembled but we smeared it in molybdenum grease .
I also wondered if it could be excess crankshaft endfloat ?
Re: weird noise that goes away when clutch is engaged .
My car does the same thing. From what I've heard is it's the throw out bearing. nothing to worry about, it's just the way the transmission was designed.

It has a brand new mitsu one in atm , Chrysler did it for me with a brand new mitsu pressure plate and disk with a brand new rps aluminum flywheel from DR .
There is nothing used or cheap in my clutch atm , its only a week old .
