Quick MAFT and S-AFC question! (want to tune with AFC only)
I just need to clarify something really quick. I just installed my MAFT and plan on running it in connection with my already installed AFC.
To my understanding, I do NOT need to attach the RPM wire if I plan on using only the AFC to tune, is that correct?
Also, if I only use the AFC to tune, I can leave all four knobs of the translator set at 0 or whatever the 12 o'clock setting is, correct? (i've heard some people say set the first setting to your injector size and leave all three at 0)
Any comments on the best way to do this would be greatly appreciated. I've found TONS of poeple tuning with the translator, but very few tuning solely with the AFC

Yes you don't need to attach the RPM wire. I personally found my car ran better when I set the injector size on the MAFT than when I purely used SAFC to control everything.

So I set the injector size on the translator, leave the 3 other knobs on 0, and use the existing afc settings when i had my stock MAS on--correct? (with exceptions to some fine tuning)

Yes, set the injector size and leave the other knobs on 0. However, depending on your injector size, you are going to be doing a little more than just fine tuning. You SAFC settings are probably going to be drastically different now.

got it, thanks!
hopefully it'll go well, i hope the 40 deg weather we're getting now wont throw it off too bad...
take care,
Joe
Re: Quick MAFT and S-AFC question! (want to tune with AFC only)
I tried setting the MAFT for injector size, then using the SAFC for everything else. I got it to run pretty well, but then when I needed to retune after adding my FMIC, I decided to go the other way, tuning as far as possible with the MAFT and using the SAFC only for fine tuning. I really recommend the latter. Try to get to your best tune with just the MAFT, then make up the rest using the SAFC. I'm pretty close, and my SAFC adjustments are pretty minor. The car is running GREAT!

something is not right here... just finished my maft and dual feed install and when I went to turn the engine on, the rpm shot up to like 3-4K rpms, then died--JUST AS IF I HAD LEFT THE STOCK MAS UNPLUGGED!! Tried it again a couple times more and it did the same thing again. Plugged my stock MAS in and it started right up, but then I noticed I have a leak in my dual feed kit so I'm quitting for the night.
Do you think my problem is that the rpm wire isnt connected?
Also, my mode switches are as follows: 1=on for z06 mas, 2=on for 3/s, 3=off(?), 4=tried both on and off, what in the world does flat or contoured aux fuel mean?
My base setting is set to 8.
also, i bought a used MAS off ebay and if I remember correctly, it's a 02 z06 mas which i dont think should make a difference.
Other than the rpm wire, I have no reason why my car isnt recognizing the translator.
Will try a thorough search in the morning, but if you feel like telling me what i did wrong, please do!
Re: Quick MAFT and S-AFC question! (want to tune with AFC only)
RPM wire would have nothing to do with that. You can run with MAFT completely standalone without RPM wire connected, it'll just default back to the air flow signal.
If you have a major leak then that is most likely your problem. Otherwise, make sure you connected the MAFT correctly. You did get the MAFT specific for the Z06 MAF right?
BTW, base setting of around 6 or 7 probably would work better for you. AUX line is for if you have a alky/propane/nitrous kit, so you can setup a different fuel trim (using the AUX adjustment knob) when those systems kick in. You don't need to connect it up.

I will double check the connections tonight, but everything seemed right. This is what I bought: "MAF TRANSLATOR FOR 2G ECLIPSE AND 3S, and 3 TO 5 WIRE MAF ADAPTOR HARNESS" Everything plugged right up, although i did notice that the harness clips from the translator to the mas harness on the car didn't "lock" up, but it plugged in fine. Then i double checked to see if the pink wire connected to the red wire and it did.
I'm pretty sure everything was on tight, but I double/tripple check again tonight. This does not make sense...

Well if it's not the connections (and they are pretty brainlessly simple connections), then it might be the MAF itself.
