I have a "BitScope" which might be good for this.

(do a google search....)

I was digging around under my dash and I found another control unit box, just wondering if anybody knows if there are any caps inside it? I am highly doubtful, this box would cause our problem, but I figured I'd throw it out there.

Part number is: MB629054 "Time & Alarm".

Has anybody deleted this unit? If you don't have factory alarm is it needed?

Give us a picture Dex.... either a real photo or from the CAPs program or service manual. If you look up the ECU you should see this other unit you speak of in the same diagram. If it is the unit perpendicular to the ECU (at least in my 1995 NA ATX) I believe this is the TCU. In your car it could be ECS, ABS (danger danger - don't tamper with it).... or else i dunno. Is there a separate thingy for Active Aero or is that onboard with the ECU?

Its under the driver side dash. It located directly up and beside the fuse block. Its more or less behind the vent that is closest to the door. Its about the size of the ECS control unit in the rear. It has the part number: MB629054 printed on the case. I looked it up in caps and all it says is: "Time & Alarm". I've disconnected it just for kicks to see if anything happens. If it doesn't do anything, then I might as well get a rid of it. Weight savings.

Prowler: If you look up the part number in CAPS you should be able to find it. Once you have the part number in your list, click on the part number and then press F2, that should bring you to the part.

With regards to the EVAP, I have deleted it (more or less). It is still functional, but I've done away with the solenoids and canister. Now it just dumps fumes from the tank into the intake pre-MAF while the car is in vacuum. The FP I think your probably referring to is "fuel pump".

if you have an SAFCII try disconnecting it. mine was fried and my car had the same symptoms. the SAFC was working fine and didnt appear to have anything wrong but when i took it out the car was fine.

I'll have disconnecting my SAFC-2. I take it temporarily cutting the power wire should work?

With regards to the "time & alarm" control box, I found out what it is. Its the ETACS unit. It seems to control the popup headlights as well the other functions listed here: http://www.3si.org/wiki/index.php/ETACS

I seriously doubt it is in any way related to our problem as I can't see any inputs to the ECU in the manual. However, with that being said, I'm going to pull the unit and revamp any old caps (if there are any).

Is the thought here that fuel vapor gives your engine "more combustible air"? Any odd affects to having it pre-MAF (MAS)? Whats the point in having the vapors go through the intake anyway? I know this is listed in the emissions section, but I still don't get it. Is this a safety precaution in case the gas tank get too hot or too pressurized?

Gotta love those side projects that keep popping up and keeping you from getting to your goal..... although I'd shit a big concrete block if fixing caps in that headlight unit actually does something. lol
