I think I am going to buy some Stillen metal matrix brake pads, mostly because I am tired of squeeky brakes and lots of brake dust. But I need to know how to install brake pads. I could send it to a shop and pay a little, but I would rather have the experience and save some money. Are there any web pages that show how or can anyone tell me. It can't be that hard to do can it?
loosen your wheels before jacking them up........jack the car up fron the front jack point...place jackstands under the car
remove wheels
there are two 17 mm bolts holding the calipers on
loosen and remove
support the calipers
there is a metal clip behind the pads......unclip it...there is a cotter pin.........remove it
slide pads out
push pistons back in with vise grips or something(brake pistons)
do the reverse of what you did to remove the pads to put new pads back in......slide pads in..slide two retainiing pegs in....cotter pin.........then metal clip
reattach caliper to its bracket
you just did your front pads
basically same shit for the rear pads
we have rigid calipers which are really easy to change pads in
if you're doing rotors..and lines.......it'll be a lil harder but still easy unless everything is rusted to shit
All ya gotta do is take the wheel off and then take the 2 bolts off the caliper. slide the caliper off the rotor and take the old pads off and put the new pads on. I have stillen metal matrix on my car and they definately didn't eliminate brake squeal. If anything they got worse (but I am missing a shim on the passenger side so I'm not gonna dog em too much )
Good luck man.... it's an easy job trust me. don't take it in
edit: oops yeah forgot you need a c-clamp to push the caliper pistons back. and you should take the cap off the master cylinder because brake fluid will be going back into it
On a TT car you don't have to pull the calipers off the car at all to change pads. All you have to do is pull the two pins holding the pads in and slide the old ones out, push the pistons back in (thats the tricky part) and slide the new pads in. This pick is of a 2nd gen rear caliper which is very similar to a front only with two less pistons.
ah...hellbringer..you are alive..LOL
it'll be pretty soon...trying to pick up some rotors cheap along with the brake pads...ill pm ya when i get the snizzle and well set a date!
Fucking right, I had the same problem with the front calipers, then I realised the pin thing.
Either way, don't waste your money on the stillens. I have them and they work fine and everything, But my rims still get a coat of brake dust every week, and they are just as noisy if not noisier than my old pads.
This is the first pair of pads I have put on the car since I got it. I know they work well, I don't know about how much they decrease stopping distance. I still need to get SS lines and drilled or slotted rotors.

Strange nobody thought to mention checking the rotor runout or surface condition.
The Service manual advises checks on min rotor thickness, end play & runnout.
For many people its likely the rotors will need machining - say anytime after maybe 100,000 miles.
Where I live there are specialists who will com eto your home & do the maching if you remove the rotors.
Just saying .................
