how to clean grease off motor

Hey guys did a engine pull today just wondering what you guys used to clean the transmisssion up. I want to make it look nice and new? I was thinking of scrubbing it with varsol? Also what kind of paint can i use on the transmission i was thinking silver. And also paint for the motor thanks guys.

If i power wash wont water get into the transmission or does that matter?

K and what about painting it ? I dont want to powdercoat it will cost to much. Just want to clean stuff up. Its not a show car right. But i do want it clean looking.

I usually use duplicolor high temp paint, whatever color you want to use. It holds up pretty well from my experience, as long as everything is clean.

the best combo ive found is a standard spray engine degreaser to knock the bigger stuff off. Then a foaming degreaser sprayed clean with brake cleaner.

That usually gets 95% of everything off. Then just use a wire brush or scrub pad to spot clean the rest.

I found it is cheaper to use Dawn dish washing liquid
(and probably a little more eco friendly). I used Eastwood's aluminum paint to give it a factory look. I have access to a media blaster and that really helped get into all the nooks and crevices.
