Mitsubishi help with mix turbo setup

lately ive been interested in upgrading my mostly stock motor with some new turbos and intercoolers.as of right now im running a 1st gen manual with 550cc's,safc2,downpipe/testpipe/borla,y-pipe,greddy r.i was reading around a bit and heard of some people running mix matched turbos like a 13g and a dynamic racing turbo.i liked the idea so here i am asking for input.im looking for something in the ballpark of 400-450 wheel hp.

i was also wondering if a decent set of twin side mounts would be better than an fmic with the mix matched turbo setup.

this is a daily driven car and i dont have much money to spend, any advice you can give me would be greatly appreciated.

thanks everyone,
Mike

Default Re: help with mix turbo setup

I would not recommend trying to make 400WHP on a setup like mine.

400 WHP has been done on 13Gs, but it is uncommon. If you want a sure 400+ WHP get at least a 15G for the smaller turbo.

The most common setup is a 9b/13G. This can do about 350WHP and is a very nice combo for someone who likes the way the stock car drives, but wants more power (especially after 5000 RPM where the 9bs drop off).

I have not had this setup to the track yet, so I don't really know if it is going to do better than my 13G/13G setup, but I suspect it will by the way it performs on the street.

There are tons of threads on this and there are going to be people who will come in and say you are going to blow your motor on a setup like this, but no one ever has and many people have posted great track times on mis-matched setups.

For what Rob Beck sells 13Ts for (something like $800-$100) I'd just pickup a set of them and have it over with. Your fuel setup is already perfect for them. I personally am going to replace my 13G with a 13T in the future and run a 13T/DR650 combo and get bigger injectors. The DSM 13Gs are decent, but are running the stock TD04 turbine and this is a pretty big restriction. Factory mitsu 13Gs that have the TD04L turbine are more expensive than 13Ts so they don't make sense to most people either.

Just get the CXRacing FMIC kit for $575 instead of spending $400+ on upgraded 15 year old DSM sidemounts. You'll have a lot more room to grow in the future.
