Hey guys, I've been trying to finish up this EBC install
http://www.performance-trends.com/im...structions.pdf and it says to connect the yellow wire of the BC to the ignition wire. On a 92 VR4, I believe there's only 1 ignition wire, and it's black with a white stripe. Am I correct? Also, if you could look at the instructions on wiring (pg 7), I am only trying to hook up the BC right now, not the turbo timer feature. It says that the timer is an optional feature, but in the required wiring for the BC it says to connect the white wire to the e-brake and names the function as "needed for turbo timer to run". I'm a noob to wiring...do you think this really needs to be connected for the unit to function strictly as a boost controller? Thanks for any help!

The parking brake wire is only necessary if you plan on using the unit as a turbo timer, so for boost controller operation it is not necessary to connect it. Also for an ignition voltage source you have many options. Really an accessory or ignition wire will do, you simply need a switched 12V source. Some easier places to grab such a wire would be the radio harness or off of one of the cig. lighters. Hope this helps.

Thanks, that does help me with my e-brake related question.
I think the point of wiring this into the ignition also is to turn on the BC when the car is turned on, and turn it off when the car is off. I do think that this would happen anyways if wired to something like the cig. lighter seeing as how there's no power to it when the car is off.....Sort of confusing. Either way, the manual on pg 7 of that link does say to connect to a +12V AND ignition...or is the ignition wire ALSO for the turbo timer, and these are just really poor instructions? If it is needed for the BC, can someone confirm that the ignition wire in a 92 vr4 is a black wire with a white stripe? |

Ok the +12Volt Source is to power you boost controller, hook that up to any 12volt accessory line i.e. cigarette lighter. To use the turbo timer function your BCU you will need to tap into your ignition key harness refer to 1995 3000GT VR-4: Turbo Timer Installation for a turbo timer installation guide. Most turbo timers come with a plug and play harness that you simply install inbewteen your ignition harness but I doubt your BCU has it considering its cost. The tutorial should help you wire up the e-brake wire and locate the ignition harness but try looking for a wiring diagram of the ignition harness to locate the correct wire to T into.

The ignition wire in the main ignition harness that runs from the key cylinder to the fusable link is a black wire with a white stripe and its a 10ga wire. The boost controller will need to have the ignition wire connected, it is the units automatic on/off signal. As for specifying "ignition" wire in the instructions, the only difference between and ignition wire and an accessory wire is that an ignition wire maintains voltage while the key is in the start position and an accessory wire does not. So the boost controller can have it's ignition wire connected to an ignition or accessory source, functionality would be the same since the boost controller doesn't do anything until the car starts. Your call on where to tap the power from but it's not as crucial as you think it is. If you do connect it directly to the black/white wire you will need to use a fuse holder. |

Hey guys thanks a lot for your help. I did in fact look on stealth316...but I always seem to suck at finding things on that site and from scrolling through the menu for "ignition" to find anything related of course didn't work out.
My main worry was determining the correct ignition wire/if it was even necessary. I knew it had to be on stealth316, I just couldn't find it! Thanks again, -Caleb |
