VR4god,

The Palm m100 can work just fine for all logging tasks. My, and many others', problem with it is that it uses replaceable batteries. These do not hold a charge for long. Since the m100 has been discontinued for a while, the capacitor-type backup battery is often no longer good. This means that when you change batteries you loose everything installed or added on the Palm, including your logs if not hotsynced to the PC yet. All software must be hotsynced from the PC to Palm with every battery change. That is why I picked up a new m515 on eBay for about $100; batteries are rechargeable through a cradle or USB cable to a PC. The serial connector (for logging) does not stay attached very well so I have to add duct tape to keep it secure. The Palm m515 would be the better choice. On the other hand, if you just want to observe (all the time! and especially knock counts) and not log (yet), the Scanmaster 3 is just the ticket.

I truly am sorry about that, I was very rushed to get the manual done. I meant to contact you about that. I can replace the picture with one from my own car, or, with your permission, add a copyright notice to the documentation. Let me know what you would prefer.

I want to add these configuration options to the unit:
Configurable for which O2 is the default display
Configurable to rescale the logger spark advance
Configurable to 'data substitute' for the second O2 sensor.
Configurable for Airflow Hz = 0-3200 (DSM guys with rescaled data)

The unit can be reprogrammed by the user via a laptop, so the file distribution is easy (email).

Your install write up is excellent, very complete.

Regards,

Bob,

If you find something interesting about my pic you used that is fine with me. The standard photo credit info would be Ok if you want to keep it.

I am so envious of the DSM guys because they can program their ECUs (like the Hz reporting). We know it is possible for our (3S) ECUs using a daughter card, but the secret is well guarded. Someday, someday ...

Some owners may prefer to see the front rather than rear O2. The dataloggers still see both, and I have 2 A/F meters installed, so not a big deal to me. Eventually I will have WBO2 to "do it right".

I notice that the MirageCorp Datalogger can report the front and rear injector pulse width separately, when connected using their datalogger cable. That might be nice to see on the Scanmaster. I notice on yesterdays logs that the Scanmaster is not passing through the two separate fuel inj pulsewidths; the MC IPW2 just reports 0.0. Chris just calls them IPW1 and IPW2 so am not sure which is front or rear.

For users that have selected one datalogger (other than the DTI), then being able to subtract 10 from the timing advance output data stream would be nice. Of course, it would be better to just have the datalogger programmers do it right.

I think the flash upgrade feature is very, very cool.

Jeff, the brand of cable makes ALL the difference.
The first one I bought off of Ebay was a POS.
Then I bought a BELKIN cable off Ebay. What a difference! Its stays in ALL the time, no problems.

Here's a link to a GREAT cable.....

Just thought I'd share.

Bob.

VR4god, I believe the fellow that makes that cable is on this board and/or team3S and stands by his product. I have not tested it though. The MirageCorp cable is "auto-on" and works well. The Scanmaster 3 is also "auto-on" and prevents the ABS from going into diagnostic mode.

Sorry it took so long.

Attached is a flash file for the Scanmaster 3.

plug in your laptop, drag this BIN file onto the SCMCOMM application (Win98) and the application will start. Key on, enter config mode and select rEF (reflash), press the mode button to switch the scanmaster to reflash mode, the leftmost digit will show "-" after a couple seconds. Press T on the laptop to send the file. The scanmaster will receive the file, verify its integrity and reprogram itself with it. The scanmaster will then 'reboot'.

The new config details are below

Scanmaster 3 version 1.1beta configuration details

Config parameter
CAr 01 = display spark scaled for 3S
02 = Display MAF scaled 0-3200 hz
04 = display front O2 as default display
08 = send 3S compensated spark value to logger
(Binary combination, add selected option values and program into parameter)

dSi 01 = send MPH to logger as Idle Speed Control

dSc 01 = send Acceleration to logger as Acceleration Enrichment
02 = send Rear O2 value to logger as Acceleration Enrichment

dSA 01 = send boost signal from EGRT input to logger as air volume
dSA 02 = send boost signal from analog 1 input to logger as air volume
dSA 03 = send boost signal from analog 2 input to logger as air volume
dSA 04 = send mph to logger as air volume
dSA 05 = send Accel G to logger as air volume
dSA 06 = send Decel G to logger as air volume
