Default Buying a rebuilt engine vs. a used one

I spun a bearing on my 1991 Dodge Stealth Twin and I've been looking to buy an engine for quite some time. I don't know whether to buy a used one with "around" 40,000 miles from Japan or a rebuilt one. If I buy a rebuilt one (just the block, heads, crank, and pistons)...how difficult is it to reassemble the parts onto it form my old engine? THANX!!

Well if you are able to install a used engine, which I would not trust, than you should be able to put together a rebuilt one. It really isn't that hard. Just make sure you do everything right. Make sure you have all the tools needed, as well as new gaskets.

I personally would go with the rebuilt motor over the used motor.

there's been quite a few engines for sale on here lately. i'd start there--rather than importing one.

I don't know why but I just found that pretty damn funny..

And yea, I would go with a rebuilt engine so I know what got done to it. For all you know that 40K JDM motor might show up and really have 140K...

Ah....I wouldn't make a move without personal knowledge or a written guarantee from a reputable rebuilder, unless you can do it yourself.

I would buy a JDM, but only for parts or as a rebuilder, and at that the price would have to be pretty sweet.

These cars are too bloody expensive to be cavalier about parts or quality.

Period.

if you can hear the engine running I'd go with a used one. LOTS of "rebuilt" engines go for sale and blow up a week later.

Then tear it down, replace the bearings at least and you should be good to go.
