First, I am so sorry to ask this general type of question, but I have been searching for days without getting the results I need(TONS of topics about datalogging!). I am sure it has been discussed, but I cannot find where.
I am doing extensive upgrades soon, and would feel a lot better about the whole project if I knew what I need for a datalogging setup. I found the software I need is called MMcd, but that is all I know. Here is a list that I am sure someone can help me with:
1.) what types of Palm Pilot (ie: model numbers?) run the software? And if available, where to get?
2.) What type of cable would I need? again, where to get?
3.) what is a reputable source for the MMcd software?
4.) Can I use the scanmaster 3 setup alone or does it require a logger as well?
I am concerned with logging/watching knock, A/F, Injector Duty Cycle, TPS, timing, and load. I have read loggers report false IDC readings on 1st gen, has this been fixed or worked around?
Thanks anyone who doesn't mind helping! Or if someone has a link that would provide this info that would be greatly appreciated as well! I just spent alot of money on the car, and I am looking to avoid buying a palm that is more than i need, or cables that I won't use, etc...
2. OBD1 DSM/3000GT I bought mine on ebay
I have one from this seller, works well and have had no problems
3. version 1.8g is new newest I belileve, a member names cbatters on here took the source code and added quite a bit of features after its last official release.
4.You can use a scanmaster alone, but I would still get a datalogger, they are cheap and great insurance. A scanmaster is awesome but is missing some features a datalogger has. The scanmaster has a plug to plug your plam right into.
I have never seen a datalogger calculate IDC's correctly. Juts log Injector pulse width and RPM and you can calculate it manually. Excel is you friend. I would also look into a wideband o2 gauge and sensor.

lol, yeah, I will be looking into the ebay route for the cable, I am no electrician...
That file on the page you linked to, is that all I need for software? That seemed too easy! is it easy to install too?
Now, without the scanmaster, I need one of those ebay cables? And if I do get the scanmaster, I wouldn't need the special cable, as it just plugs in? Just making sure.
yup...I want wideband....just don't have the $$$ for more car stuff at the moment (hard to believe after I just spent $4,000+). I plan to get a baseline tune after the new setup is installed, and eventually get the wideband and have the car dyno tuned. Hopefully by Ray P., seeing as how he's only a few hours away in LI, and sounds like he really knows his shit.
pulse width and rpm....you don't know the formula do you? IDC = pulse width x rpm??? I swear I just saw it the other day searching, but forgot where. $&#@!!!
I just wanted to give you this link to help you out. Explains all perimeters of the datalogging programs. I always found my IDC's to be relatively accurate

whatever palm you get should come with the software you need so you can transfer the MMcd software over to the palm.
I love my Scanmaster. I would get one if I were you. It's so nice to have knock and O2's and any other signal i need right there in front of me at all times with out having to have a palm pilot mounted somewhere. then when I really need to fine tune i plug my palm into the scanmaster and can review the logs in detail after transferring them to excel.
you need the MMcd Tool that is also on that web site for download. It will allow you to transfer the logs as a .csv format file from the palm to your computer which can be opened in just about any spreadsheet program. I prefer excel.
From my experiences, i believe widebands are overrated when you are using a piggyback fuel controller. You can get a perfectly fine tune with the stock O2's. As long as they are working properly. Hell, Matt Monett has made over 900awhp in his stealth using the ARC-2 fuel controller without EVER using a wideband. You just shoot for about .96 on the O2's and if you can go down to .94 without knock that's great.
Car is going to shop soon! I have scanmaster 3, AEM wbo2's, but no palm yet.
If I need it, can someone help me in setting up the SM3 for the info I need? It looks like I can do it, but someone with experience on these unit's would be a great help.
Question: the SM3 displays and recalls values, but does not "log" by itself, right? For that I would need a Palm? Some one using both, please elaborate...
Look for more info soon on the 16t setup! Wish me luck!
