ESOPUS — A 20-year-old Kingston man died Saturday night after he was rear-ended by a drunk driver while riding his motorcycle on Route 9W in the Town of Esopus.

Matthew Spiconardi was pronounced dead at Saint Francis Hospital in the Town of Poughkeepsie Saturday, according to state police in Highland.

Police said Spiconardi was traveling south on Route 9W, near the intersection of Old Post Road in Esopus, when he was rear-ended by a Honda Civic driven by Jeffrey Hey, 46, of Esopus.

The collision caused Spiconardi to go off the west shoulder of the road.

Hey was charged with felony counts of first-degree vehicular manslaughter and driving while intoxicated. He was sent to Ulster County Jail without bail and is scheduled to appear in Esopus town court Monday.

I'd like to get a cruise together in honor of Matthew Spiconardis life. all who attend will be asked to make a donation of any amount, the money raised by the cruise will go to matts family to help pay for everything.

There are BBQ pits available down at the park, ..............NO ALCOHOL!!!!!!!!!!
anyone drinking will be asked to leave, as Matt was killed by a drunk driver and i will not allow anyone who is celebrating the life of my best friend, to drink and drive!

Figure on a meeting time of about 10AM with a departure time for a cruise through some of matts favorite places, of about 3pm. I really wanna make this a full day event.

Anyone is welcome to cruise, cars of all kinds, we wont be tearing up the streets so dont worrie if you dont think you can keep up with some of the cars, we will be doing the speed limits the whole way.

I'm still planning the rout for the cruise but we wont be back to the park until dark so plan on getting gas and cruisin for the day!
