The holiday Inn we are staying at doesn't have a $159 rate. The rooms we are getting are normally $129. We are saving $10.

If we had gone the next week Aug. 29, the rates would be about $30 less.

Like I said, not complaining. I've made my reservations already.
I have to call the hotel tomorrow to confirm some things but I'll look into the discounted rate. Last month the rates $159.00 (believed me, I checked).

The cheapest room there is only $513 per night.

AND,can you all believe, they are sold out the weekend we are going? Who's got that kind of money?.
3SNJ & 3SNY originally planned to have the NEG someplace in NJ or Long Island. But we all decided to have the NEG the fourth weekend of August, just in case we were able to go back to Albany. Unfortunately the weekend we're going is Travers (<~ spell check that) Weekend. Which is Saratogas biggest race of the year. Last year it was the 3rd weekend of August and this year it was the fourth weekend of August. So yea, we kinda got screwed on that deal again.

That explains why the rates are goofy that weekend. If you go to holiday inn's web site, you can book a room for $129 individually. The next weekend I could get a room for $99 with a senior discount.

As far as having NEG in NJ or LI, LI SUCKS. Personally I would rather go somewhere in northwest NJ its a very nice area. I used to go to Great Gorge to the playboy club when it was there. That was before most of you guys were born
Would the Poconos be an option, or don't you consider that the northeast?

Are your dates correct? The 22nd IS the 3rd weekend in Aug. not the 4th weekend

I might actually be able to come to this...and here's the catch...I might have a 3000GT to drive there in! I make no promises but the new car I bought is at the mechanics right now(I'm in Chicago on business) being inspected so as long as things go well enough with that to the point where any work which needs to be done is completed before this weekend I may be down for showing up.

James

EDIT: Also wondering. If I'm not staying in the hotel(I don't have the money to do that) than when is the latest I could sign up for the gathering?

I called the hotel to inquire about why the their advertised rates are $129.00 a night and why we are paying $119.00 a night. Every year a majority of the hotels that surround Saratoga increase their rates for Travers weekend. Last year they didnt sell as many rooms as they would have liked to so they decreased their rates.

$129.00 is the lowest possible price they are allowed to offer rooms for. Since we have developed a repoire as well as scheduled our event earlier than any other group, management at the Holiday Inn locked in the price of $119.00 a night. Last year and last month, the rooms were $159.00 a night without the discount. I spoke to Alan 2 days ago to see what he paid a night and he said it was around $180 (tax included). Thats what he paid cause he didnt reserve his room and just showed up.

Also keep in mind, they are giving us our own sectioned off parking lot. As well as a meeting place and use of their facilities to wash our cars. They give us alot more than they have to because they are hoping that we would come back every year. The overall layout of this hotel is perfectly designed for car meets. I checked almost every single hotel in the area and there is no other hotel designed like this one. This hotel has a ridiculously large parking lot, indoor pool, outdoor pool w/ bar, free internet access, martini bar, restaurant, and meeting facilities. Now, In case you are wondering why the amenities are so important, its because in the event of rain there are plenty of things to do and in case people want to drink, people dont have to drive around. Its also located incredibly close to a large shopping center so if wives or girlfriends get bored they have something to do. The hotel is also located right by the highway that leads to Lake George.

Hope that helps

These are very valid points. (especially the one in red). Location couldn't be better and the amenities are extremely convenient. I hear they even have wedding parties that stay there.
