Default NG '09 Car Show Judges

Contact me via email if you are interested in being a car show judge for the NG. Give a brief explanation of why you think you would make a good judge.

marshallwb@comcast.net

What the judging consists of is looking at cars all week and making notes on which ones you have in mind for a particular category of the car show. Talking to the owners about their cars which is always fun, plus they will usually tell you about some of their details/mods that you may not notice otherwise. (you don't let them know you are a judge at any time)

Then your final judging takes place at the car show on Beale St. The car has to be at the car show in order to be considered even if the guy with the nicest car at the NG was too hung over to come park his/her car at the car show. (or too upset about his team losing in the world cup)

You are still eligible to be a judge even if you have a car that you think will be competitive in the car show. I couldn't imagine ruling those people out as judges because they are usually some of the most knowledgeable 3/S owners and know what it takes to build a nice 3/S. Last year we had a total of 13 judges. A few of them had some of the nicest cars in the show. The judges were not allowed to vote for their cars in any category and a couple of them still won big trophies even without their own votes. If your car is deserving then you will still win due to the number of judges we have.

The judges do not know each other and are told to be conspicuous so that no bias can occur.

Car Show Judging Categories

Notes to participants and judges – A car will be considered as first generation if it has pop-up headlights. A car will be considered as second generation if it has projection headlights. We have found that this is the best way to distinguish between the two categories due to the different combinations of exterior modifications that are possible. If a car has a combination of 1st and 2nd generation body parts they may not be suited optimally for either category. However, those cars may be suited optimally for other categories such as “Best Custom Exterior.” Spyders are not considered in the Best 2nd Generation category because they have their own category for their model. However, Spyders can be considered for Best Interior, Exterior, Engine Bay, & People’s Choice categories.

Best First Generation 3/S – This is for the overall quality of the car in regards to every aspect of building a show car - Exterior, Interior, Engine Bay, & Modifications.

Best Second Generation 3/S – This is for the overall quality of the car in regards to every aspect of building a show car - Exterior, Interior, Engine Bay, & Modifications.

Best Custom Exterior – This category is for 3/S cars with EITHER custom paint (not factory paint code) OR for a car with a considerably modified exterior appearance. For example: an outstanding custom paint job on a stock body, OR a stock paint color on a car with lots of custom body work would qualify, OR a car with custom paint and body work.

Best Custom Interior – This category is for 3/S cars with custom interiors. This includes seats, carpet, instrument panel, gauges, console, lighting, trunk, and exc.

Best Spyder – This category is for the "oh so rare" 3000GT Spyders. These cars are judged in an overall manner like the best 1st and 2nd generation categories.

Best Engine Bay – Engine bays are judged based on custom/creative designs and modifications, cleanliness and neatness.

Best In Show – This is the 3/S car that the judges feel is the best car in the show regardless of year/make/model. This is usually the car with the “complete package” inside and out and under the hood.

People’s Choice Award – Every registered attendee at the NG Car Show will have a vote for their favorite car. No specific rules. Simply cast your vote for the car you like the most!

Examples:

This is considered a 1st Gen. Even though it has a '99 style bumper it still has pop-ups.

This is considered 2nd Gen. The sides and rear are 1st gen but it has a full '99 conversion in the front including projection headlights.

Both of these cars would also be good candidates for Best Custom Exterior.
