After my forensic examination I have come to a hypothesis of what events occured to cause such carnage.

From what I gathered, the tensioner pulley bolt must have slipped, or the tensioner quit tensioning and gave enough slack on the timing belt to allow the intake cam on the rear head to skip timing. The piston hit the valves on the intake side of the rear. The timing belt wanted to keep moving, but that particular cam could not due to the bent valve(s). From my examination, the pin coming out of the cam that fits in the notch of the cam sprocket acted at as a "log splitter" so to speak, fracturing the cam sprocket and eventually caused it to break. Because the timing belt could no longer move. Trying to start the car again when the timing belt could not move sheared the teeth off the timing belt down on the crank pulley side.
I will let you know what how the pistons look upon removal of the rear head.

Not going to happen that way. The cam gear would strip teeth off the timing belt long before it could come close to breaking the cam gear.

I'm sorry to here that man. I've been busy the last couple weeks, I log in for the first time in about 10 days or so and find out your engines toast, that's a bummer. If you need any help I'd be glad to lend a hand. Maybe if you scrounge around in Songsay's backyard you can find another engine. If the AF won't ship your car you still might have time to drop in a jdm engine. Also you might luck out and only have bent valves and not damage your pistons. If that's the case and Songsay still has the heads from my Stealth, you might not be as screwed as you think. I've never seen a cam gear break like that. Did the timing belt slip at all or did the gear just break? Take care.

Joe
