hey no worries man. i still have my EOS Elan 7e fil SLR and i play with that thing from time to time.

you may wanna add a wireless remote or learn how to use the mirror lock up function to properly do blur-free long exposures (especially at night). lemme know once you get your camera.

yeah thats what I recommended as a starting lens. its light and cheap. its a plus by being light as it wont wear you down - once you get addicted to shooting, the lightest camera you can hold for the longest time is your friend. cheap - if you break it, it wont cost a fortune to replace.

HOYA makes good filters. Cokin is also a good brand.

Canon filters are fine as well. I have one on my 50mm. i just dont happen to use Tiffin, but you can try it.

the lens you are planning to get has a filter diameter of 58mm. the 18-55mm is the zoom range.

not necessarily. it all depends. if you ask 10 photogrpahers about UV filters you are likely to get 10 different answers. I personally have not had any problems with IQ degradation. then again, i know what Im shoting and try to control my parameters as best I can. you can just give it a shot. unless you pixel peep anyway, you probably couldnt tell the difference.
