Default question for all you Electricians out there (Engine Start Stop Button)

So while I was out yesterday getting some final supplies to complete my Fuel Pump Hotwire (which was a great success btw ) i stumbled across a cheapish Engine Start/Stop Button. Couldnt resist so i bought it. looks quite simple to install but im not going to just yet as i want to do it in a certain way.
now, from my understanding, you can wire this baby up so that once your key is in the Acc Position, you just press and hold the button and it starts.
but thats stupid to me cause it doesnt take much to switch the key that half an inch more to start it like a normal car.
what i want is like what i have here at work with the Liberty GT's and 3.6R's not a keyless entry. i dont care for that much, although it would be nice, a way that all i need to do is disarm the alarm and sit without needing any key, press the button and start.
or a proximity feature where the car WONT start unless you have the key in the car with you.

anyways help, advise? tips?

cheers peeps

(Melbourne) Pete was planning on doing exactly this in his mega build. He's done quite a bit of research into it all.

yeh,
figuring now it might be worth just leaving it so the key turns to the on position and then you press the button to start. which is a bit wanky but meh it works
thing i dont get is the cars here have the stop start button working keyless because theres no barrel for the key anyways. so the steering lock isnt a problem. i think once you got accessories it frees it up?

meh. ill have to look into it more but anyhelp would be kool/
keep in mind, this wasnt on my to do list. i just found it cheap so i though what the heck.

At best a engine start button is wank factor.

installation as follows

find the start ( not on ) wire comming from the key barrel

put 12 V to one side of the engine start switch
connect other side to spliced start wire

Just turn the key to ON
press the start button. ( it will kick over the motor )

realise that you just wasted money and time - for wank factor. Then realise that you should be driving a honda.

:P

done.

Glen
