Ok Plan of attack is

Get a trailer that will actually fit the GT on it and drive up and get it out of NSW and back to my place. Then at least its back home and easy to work on instead of all this travel and the cost involved to get there and more to the point into my hands and not Mitsubishi however i cant fault them too much, it was a second hand part so it was never a sure thing to fix the issue.

Once its home will catch up with Pete and see if we can work some magic and get her back up and running. also sink some beers at the same time.

Again thanks for the all the posts and suggestions people, its one of the reasons our community is so awesome

Cheers All

I think, maybe before you pay the expense of a trailer, call up mitsu, tell them to unplug your MAF, and see if it will run. it will show a CEL but it will run. If it does, you can drive it home. it will run rich as fuck, but it will get you by. mine was running no MAF for over a year. got me by no problems.
worth a shot mate.

PTU needs thermal compound underneath it to dissapate heat - Have you checked your ECU for the blown caps issue? I blew two PTU's in the dee. Turns out the ECU was fried. Got the ECU rebuilt from Steve at mitsi-spec and so far havent had a problem.
