So I had some boost issues and suspected some issues with the Y-Pipe. So I bought a Polished Aluminium Y-Pipe on eBay and fitted it. Had a few minor issues. Supplied Vacuum hose was too big so had to bend the nipple so I could use the origional hose. Seems to work fine except that it sometimes touches the brake fluid reservoir cap and can push it off. So need to bend it back to origional position and use some other pipe etc. The main reason I have posted is that is it worth it? The Aluminium pipe seems to heat up quite a bit after a quick drive so is it having a negative effect? The plastic one would not have heated up much at all. Also the plastic one seems to be fine. I found the rubber gasket/seal on the throttle body to be squashed up and not sealing correctly and the seal on the BOV was not great either. So Do I spend time fitting the plastic one back on or leave it as is [once I have fixed the vacuum hose]?????
I have the same one or similar off ebay and its giving me the shits. Already blown off once and the o-clamps (or whatever the fuck they are called) slowly come loose over time. I will probably leave mine on for now...
Currently everything is stock as well as boost so at some point will prob fit the plastic one back on. Couldn't be stuffed now though. Will just fix the vacuum hose and leave it for a while.
Question regarding the heat of the pipe. Would you say most of the heat is coming from heat-soak or from the air rush?
The amount of heated compressed air that travels at speed through your intake is creating the heat, even the plastic one heats up heaps. Thing is the plastic T pipe doesn't hold the heat like the aluminium one and can disserpate better.
Fixed the vacuum hose. Joined the origional hose to a short piece of silicon hose using a piece of copper pipe. Now there is plenty of slack so don't have to worry about it ripping out if the Y-Pipe blows off. It blew off once already. Lucky I keep all required tools etc in the car. If it blows off again i'll put the plastic one back on.
