In english please?

He has HID bulbs in the housings. The H4 bulbs that came with the housings are sitting on a shelf in the garage.

Do you mean "reflectors"?
The housings DO have reflectors, they're just hard to see in the small picture...enlarge it...

lol. Bob, the HID bulbs are half of the lighting system. the other half are the projector lenses. without the lenses, you get unfocused beam pattern. ur son may be blinding on coming drivers because it's going to look like he's driving around with high beams on. the lenses keep the light focused so it's not scattered. it's like using a spotlight at a presentation instead of a laser pointer . this is why they made it illegal to install HID's in cars that don't have the right equipment.

there are probably only 2 or 3 guys on this board who have actually done the retrofit, including me. most guys end up with the Hella projector h4 conversions. it's a little bit better than having nothing at all, but still isn't the best for HID applications.

3sx sells these which aren't too bad, but u'll never get a perfect beam pattern unless u do a retrofit.

i would also suggest these if ur on a very tight budget:
eBay Motors: 4x6 H4 Black Projector Headlights 82-92 Chevy Camaro (item 180283976262 end time Sep-07-08 08:42:24 PDT)

not quite as good either, but the black housing will keep the light from refracting all over the place.

hrmm...I thought he got the right housings (the ones with the reflector in them. I thought you needed to reflect the beam back onto the back of the housing to get the correct beam pattern.

They honestly are not bad to look at. Hell, he said he went by at least 3 cops cars with them on and nobody said boo.

They are bright (no brighter than the fogs) but not kaleidoscopy at all...

We did bad?

Ugh.

there are 2 types of HID systems. 1 of them does use a reflector style housing, but those are engineered specifically for HID reflector bulbs. the more common type are the projector style which use projector lenses to form and focus the light. if you can get away with using what you have, then good for you . i just think there's more to be had if you switch to some projector lenses.

That is exactly what I tried to tell the old man haha.. But ofcourse I went with what HE thought was right. In all honesty they look fine to me.

Is there any way I can check to see if they're throwing light everywhere? Maybe shining them on a garage door (don't know exactly what to look for when doing this)?..

Zach.

park 25' away from the garage door or other wall. u have to be on a level surface. there should be a beam cut off around 27" off the ground. unfortunately, u won't have a beam cut off because u don't have a lens. here's what it should look like:

to get the ballasts and the wiring where i wanted them it took some time and some work! I ended up relocated the horn, and put the drivers side ballast right underneat cruise control. This brought to my attention, that the wires were not quite long enough and I had to relocate it slightly closer to the popup mechanism. No big deal. I then ran the wire to the passenger side IN FRONT of the radiator so it wasnt seen. The other ballast went underneat the MAS if i recall correctly. I still would have preferred to pull out the popup mechanism and drill a hole in the back to allow the wires to come through so they dont have to sit right where the hood comes down. But i got fed up and just wanted to see the lights work
