Default rotor/caliper question

our stock tt rotors measure 30mm wide. do you think we could use 32mm rotors without spacers in the stock caliper? i asked this in the general forum, but i'm guessing no one knows. hope to get an answer from the road racing masters

I personally can't tell you the 100% answer to that (and I'm certainly not a road racing expert). My assumption is based on my own experience though. I don't think a new set of standard pads would fit with 32mm rotors (its just too tight). However, some pad clearancing aught to get you there (just don't breathe the brake dust).

The WIDE rotor kit comes with machined spacers that fit between the two caliper halves (and extra req'd O-rings). SCE sold me an extra set to put into a spare caliper set, maybe they'd sell you just those pieces. Very easy to install. Depending on where the centerline of the rotors is, you may need the spacers for the caliper mounts that also come in that kit.

The whole idea is to be able to put new pads on and have them fit. The spacers for the 35 mm rotors will do that. The only issue is whether the caliper pistons will extend too far out when your pad wears down to the backing plate metal. Maybe SCE can answer that question for you. Or you could take the spacers for the 35 mm rotors and machine them down thinner to be the perfect size for a 32 mm rotor.

2 mm is only 0.079 inches, so that's less than 0.040" per pad clearance lost. Are you sure the stock calipers and new pads won't clear that with the pistons fully depressed?
