Default Review: SCE Caliper Replacement/Stiffening Bolts

For months I've had a really irritating slight squeal when I brake sometimes, and a bit of steering wheel rattle at speeds above 50ish mph. Checked the pads, blah blah, no problems.

A couple months ago, I ordered the SuperCar Engineering caliper stiffening bolts here (Supercar Engineering. Set them on my "need to install sometime" shelf as I always seem to do. Last night, I finally installed them.

The brake pedal feel is night and day! Much firmer, much nicer. I can't believe I waited so long to install them. It eliminated the squealing noise, even though I didn't replace the pads. It also greatly reduced the steering wheel rattle, which I think could have been the pads rattling against the rotor. They had a good bit of play with the loose stock pad retaining bolts.

The stock pin and little mini-paperclip retaining clips are definitely junk to me now. And at under $25 this is a must-have mod for sure!

Thanks for another great product Philip/SCE.

I was thinking about getting these but I have a first gen so the bolts are just held in by a wire instead of nuts. I saw on the website that the first gen ones don't have the rear bolts so would they still increase stiffness or will they just be utilizing the safety wire.

Since 1st gen and 2nd gen front calipers are the same except for the mouting ears, the bolts are the same (nuts and all), you just don't get bolts for the rears like 2G ones, hense the cheaper price.

In all reality, the fronts are what matters the most anyways.
