That IS a possibility. With greater torque transfer through the case, there is greater load. It shouldn't make too much difference as far as the leak-based failures go (what the Federal recall addresses). If the TC leaks, then it leaks and there's a problem that needs to be fixed. If the motor mounts are worn, then the engine will rock backwards placing more strain on the TC possibly increasing its potential for failure and those factors aren't really affected by the diff sending more power through the TC, but it could be a factor in the very high HP cars breaking 2G transfer case gears.
The 2G cases are fairly stout (iron as opposed to the 1G aluminum) as in they rarely break, however, there have been a few folks with high HP cars who've stripped the teeth off the gears/broken the gears in the TC on launch. For the drag racers out there with lots of power/torque, it might be necessary to find/make stronger TC gears. Max

1) Locks up when it is run without oil. 2) Breaks when someone welds the center diff locked and then dumps the cluch. Do not mix the two issue or lump them together. The first issue will not be affected by the new diff. If the t-case locks up, the rear wheels lock up, and the car goes into a tail spin. It does not matter what the center diff is doing, it's simple. Second, the guys who want to get good drag launches have been welding their center diffs locked. A welded diff would send up to 100% of power to the rear wheels if the front wheels start slipping. This diff would send only 80% (not 90%). Still, that could be a lot of HP, and a talented clutch operator can still greanade the transfer case. But at least he now would have a diff that is not welded, and he can drive around town with it. And the thing is, these cars will never pop wheelies, so they do not need 100% of power at the rear wheels. An 80% is a good number to divide the traction between the front and the rear. Guys who break reinfornced t-cases with the stock VCU's usually have cars that are too heavy on tires that are too sticky. A different diff would not help in this case. Either lighten the car, or try to be gentler with the clutch. Philip

In any case, I was just refering to stock 1st gen t-cases under high HP applications. In my case, I am very afraid of blowing my TC on a launch, and would only immagine this center diff would make the problem worse.. But then you have to think that anyone who can afford to get this center diff and does not upgrade a weak stock TC has NO room to complain about it..

Yes, I found some better suppliers for the components, and things are looking even brighter than before. I should be able to crank them out in small batches, so there is a good group buy potential.
Timing wise, I can crank out a couple right now, and a few dozen at the end of the month, but I would rather make the precise welding fixtures first, so give me another 2-3 weeks to get it all going. I too can's wait to see these things in other people's cars and hear what they have to say. Philip |

But I recomment converting the transmission to the 25-spline. I have a used bell housing and the "front output shaft" on my site in the used parts section. Only one of each is available, so place your order ASAP, if you want one. Philip |

Awsome work as usual Phillip!
It looks like you are cutting the gear off of the center diff housing and welding it to a new housing with all the goodies in it. Does that about sum it up? You must have a nice assortment of equipment if you are doing it in house. Who's output shafts are you using? The one in the picture looks like a MW. When the wheels are not slipping, is the split for this diff 50/50 of some thing else?We only broke one set of TC gears on T4 and only after countless launches and 9s runs. Stay on top of leaks, use good fluid, and do not perform any stupid launches and the 446 TC will be good for nearly everyone. I would not trust some one else to tell me that my TC is not leaking. Even a seep needs to be addressed ASAP.
