wayne,
have you guys looked into offering a canton accusump setup? It's basically a regulated high-pressure reserve cylinder of oil that stores up oil when pressure is sufficient and discharges when pump pressure drops. I think it would go nicely with the pan, (or maybe in place of it if philip's tired of welding). 3 quarts of high pressure reserve oil would be pretty sweet if the oil pump decides to crap out on the end of a long straight and you need enough time to pull onto the grass. ![]()

I think this would be a great idea myself. I know the pans are a PITA to coordinate. I'll look into the idea and talk to Philip about it when I see him.

Wayne , I have been using one for years and its saved me a couple of times . I have mine plumbed into the oil pump body where the gauge sender is located . I had to tap it to NPT so I dropped the pan and removed the pump to insure no material got into the engine during the tapping process ,cleaned and re-installed . The accumulator sits under the battery tray . I just took the engine down for freshing up and found after 165,000 miles the crank was near perfect . All it needed was micropolishing and hence standard bearings went back in . Steve

talked with a colleague that does lube circuits, 60-80 L/min is a typical pump flowrate for a 4 cylinder running at redline and full load. flow rate is roughly linear with engine speed.
so apparently just enough to clutch in, hit the brakes and shut down; if your oil pump blows up completely. Probably quite a bit more time if it's still "kind of" working. Last edited by i3igpete : 03-28-2008 at 07:19 AM. |

Turbo , I have a very old 1QT system installed under the battery tray . Its been there since 1994 and has never failed . I use it to pre-lube the engine prior to startup ,cold or hot ,also a side benefit is that if the oil pressure falls below a certain set point the accumulator will intervene to maintain that set point . It saved me when I let the oil level get a little low and I was blasting around some back roads and the pressure dropped due to sloshing and exposing the pickup . Currently I am looking at the 2 qt unit but i do not have an adequate space picked out yet since they are 4.250" in Dia . Additionally I use Mobil 1 and OEM filters since day one . One more thing Moroso also makes one like the Canton/ Accusump that is available through Summit . I have never used the Moroso but just to let you know there are options . Steve

I think the same, that it would go nicely with the pan, also could be sold as a complete kit.
