Default Re: Solids on a n/a ATX

I wish I could have gotten to this thread earlier. I bought Terry's Solids for my ATX a while ago and removed them earlier this year because I never did get used to it. I had them on for about 6 months.

The shaking never goes away and it's completely brutal in an ATX but lovable if you have an MTX. You might get used to the shaking but I doubt it. Even if you do increase your idle, it'll still be there. It's because your car is trying to go forward but your stopping it with the brakes. Going into neutral, as you've experienced, isn't so bad but it's still a pain in the ass.

I had the whining too. I suspect that it's normal for an ATX with solids but I don't know what causes it.

Either way, I'm back to stock mounts. I know I'll have to replace them every now and then but it's better then the horrible vibrations with solids in an ATX.

That said, Terry's solids are a great product. Now that I have a VR4, I'm going to probably buy another set. I drove my friends MTL SL after we put solids in it and I could barely tell that they were solids.

Ah! why didn't I think of why the ATX feels so different. Yea Solids are much more noticeable in an ATX over a Manual for that exact reason. Trust me when I say there is a big difference. Now while it wouldn't bother me because i drove a 4g63 with the balancer shafts removed and poly inserts it is sorta similar in shake but only at idle and on the brakes.

Good thing I found this...so I guess I should go with different motor mounts? Should I go 3sx style, or stock?

If I had never seen one before, Id ask you about it too. Let us know when people start to mistake your Subaru for a Ferrari.

honestly i dont know. I am still on solids and pretty much use to it. The only thing I can't get over with these solids on is when I'm idling on a hill, for some reason the noise and vibration just get stronger. If you go with poly mounts please post your reactions since Im thinking about going that route.

Haha, I'm only lucky to live in Vegas between the months of October to May. The whole summer middle bit is brutal. It's like reverse seasonal hibernation. We stay inside during the summer, it's just not fun at all. On top of that, you have to be careful how far and how often you drive in this heat. All kinds of cars break down like there's no tomorrow here. It is cooling down a bit but it's still stupid hot, even at night when its still 90+ degrees.

If you're going to go with regular motor mounts, I highly recommend getting them from Mentor Mitsubishi (mentormitsubishi.com - I think). You can order from where ever and I believe that they still give an extra discount for 3Si members. I bought a full set of mounts for $300 + shipping. It's really hard to beat that.
