God, I f**kin hate dealerships.
They're all out there to screw ya. Obviously not the shops fault, but it is a crappy situation.

I don't know if this is an option, but from time to time the dealership would let us do work on the side on our own time, especially when work was slow. I would charge $350 to $400 to change a clutch out, with the understanding nothing was warrantied and in no way could any issues fall back on the business.

$200?? That's a deal and a half. What is $200 if you ponied up thousands upon thousands of dollars for a brand new transaxle from Mitsu? I know those things are horribly, horribly expensive, assuming AWD Getrag. I'm sure the N/A transaxles aren't exactly cheap either.
I don't understand how the decision to not go through with the re-install makes any kind of sound financial sense. No one(shop), in their right mind, will do that work for $200. It would be foolish to not accept this offer as it is going to cost much, much more to go elsewhere and start all over....and pray they know what they're doing. The labor side of this is cut and dry. If I buy a fuel pump on ebay and have IPS install it, and then it falls apart the next day in the tank....does IPS owe me a new fuel pump, plus all labor to install a new one, etc.? Of course not, they didn't manufacture the pump. All they did was install it. My beef would be with whoever made the pump. Same concept here with the transaxle, your complaint should be addressed to Mitsu. Even better I used to have a Yukon Denali. Something was wrong with the rear tail light. It kept eating them like candy, literally like one a week. The replacements were $90+ each, which piled up quickly. I bought from the dealership every time, no knock off stuff. After the 2nd one I started raising hell with the dealership wanting to be comp'd out for the tail light. Guess what they told me? Talk to GM corporate, we don't make the part. I never got a dime out of it in the end... Jeremy

Oh dear.
![]() edd, you buy a new water heater for your house at Lowes and then hire someone to come install it for you. It goes belly up the next week. You now have to go get another one, under warranty from Lowes. You call up the guy you hired to put the old one in. You think he is going to put in the new one for free? No way, no how. He might offer you a discount, if he's a nice guy, but certainly isn't going to work for free when the part was defective, not the install. That's the key issue here, the 3rd party part was defective, not the install. Jeremy |
