Well before i get started i would like your opinions on this matter before i release the Vender's name.
Well i have started researching the Map ECU2 and thought It was the piggy back for me. I went to their distributor (one of our vender's) and i bought a pre-wired harness and the map ecu2 along with the ebc (over 1k spent). Since the time i got the harness and mapecu2 the car had nothing but problems. The harness was half wired and wired incorrectly from the start (waste of money). The Vender said they would give me a hook up price my next purchase to redeem this. After i installed everything and wired everything correctly the car wouldn't start. So i had a local shop look the car over from front to back ($500 spent). Finlay after getting the car back i pulled the map ecu2 out and with no surprise it wouldn't power up. So i sent it back and sure enough its defective and the harness wasn't powering the unit and the unit went bad. So i asked for a refund in credit to buy the aem. The vender said their at the mercy of the other company for a refund since they didn't make that product. Yeah their not standing by it. So I went on map ecu2 forums and posted up after getting the run around from the vender about who's to blame to pay for it. Map ecu2 didn't want the negative rep so soon with their unit on their forums and gave them a full refund for both. So now back to this hook up price on my next purchase seems to be 35 dollars off the aem compared to other venders. So i simply said to refund my paypal account to the amount i spent on this set up. Their response was: "cannot send it via pay pal it will be sent via check through the mail. There is also a 25% restocking fee. All Terms can be found in the following link" I wont post the link just now just waiting to see if this publicity will bring new light to the situation...

Bad products happen, if you want to exchange it then it should be exchanged(within their return time frame), if they let you upgrade that is their choice. If you don't want to exchange it then I can see the restocking fee.

so let me get this straight. you bought this MAP ECU2 and it was defective. the MAP agreed it was defective and agreed to give the Vendor a full refund and now said vendor wants to charge you 25% Restocking fee while they get the full refund from MAP? is that correct?

I dont know if I would agree with that so much. He said the Map ECU2 guys gave the vendor a full refund for the items. What exactly are they restocking? I think they should give a full refund just like they received for the defective product.

if in fact that is correct the Vendor is just being a bouche dag. restocking fees only really exsist to keep people from returning little shit and far to often taking advantage of the vendor. unfortunatlly the OP is probablly just screwed. |

Any one wanna PM wagers on what vendor?
Just kidding, well unless anyone wants to bet I agree w/ the above posts; the restocking fee is total shit if they are receiving a full refund. I think its sad the company selling XXX product doesn't go OUT OF THERE WAY to please a customer and handle all the background leg work for a defective product. I can somewhat see the company's stance on charging some for paperwork, processing, packaging/time spent ect. However 25% seems a bit much, and should be waived 100% if you are using this refund to purchase another item from them. Nice touch... 25% = more then your 35 dollar credit?

If the manufacturer is issuing a 25% restocking fee then I can see why the vendor has to forward that fee to you. If the product is defective there shouldn't be a restocking fee for a defective product.
Why would the vendor catalog a used defective product back in the stock? A similar thing happened to a local shop nearby. There are reasons why I pay with a credit card, one being the stop payment action. I ended up sending the unit back and calling the CC company to reverse the payment. Never heard from them since
