Default Billet 3.0L Crank??

A customer of mine(Kaddo on here) was informing me that there may be interest in making a billet 3.0 direct OE replacement crank for the 3000GT. If this were to happen it would work with all stock components and aftermarket rods/piston combos. This would be beneficial to people who are making upwards of 800+ who are having issues with the stock crank cracking/flexing. Let me know how you guys feel towards this being a possible product and also suggestions as well would be greatly appreciated.

Robert

There would definately be big interest in a billet crank for the 6G7* format, if the price was right. One offs are currently about $3000. Many like myself would like the option of custom strokes and journal sizes as well.

A person who makes unnecessary modifications to their most often import car (hence the term "rice") to make it (mostly make it look) faster. The most common modifications are (but not limited to):

- Huge exhaust that serves no purpose but to make the car louder
- Large spoiler on the back that looks like something Boeing made for the 747
- Lots of after-market company stickers they don't have parts from, but must be cool
- Expensive rims that usually cost more than the car itself
- Body kit to make the car appear lower, usually accented with chicken wire
- Clear tail lights and corner signals
- A "performance intake"- a tube that feeds cold air to their engine usually located in areas of excessive heat (behind or on top of the engine)
- Most of these riced cars (a.k.a. rice rockets or rice burners) are imports; Honda Civics, Accords, Integras, CRXs, RSXs, Del Sols Mitsubishi Eclipses, Lancers, Subaru Imprezas, however there are some domestics such as Chevrolet Caviliers, Dodge Neons, Ford Focus; small, slow, economy cars designed specifically to go slow. Please note that some 3000gt's Supras, Skylines, WRX's and other higher performance imports are designed to go fast, and are therefore not always considered rice, but it really depends on the severity of the case.

The only issue with a stock billit crank is that its no less money then getting a stroker crank. Jeff and I talked about this, and there would be no price difference, so why stick with stock displacement when u can bump it to almost 3.5?

Yeah some guys can take all the peak power they like, i'll enjoy my excellent average power over my powerband with my extra displacement and properly sized turbos(or a single). Makes for a far more enjoyable car. Look at Trevor and what hes done with *little* 16g's, not a peaky setup buy great power over a broad range makes for a very quick car.

Yes but we are talking cost wise. Giving them an OE crank with no r&d needed it will be cheaper then the 3.5 crank. 12K for a short block or few grand for a billet crank that can handle the 800+ daily driven. 3sx has a race car try that on a street car like ray did and watch what happens. IPO stated his crank had cracks and everything but he still runs it. Im talking about a 3.0 crank for the rest of us that dont want to machine the block out and pay 12K! With th rod and piston combo out their now this would be a step in the right direction.

Not all strokers will cost 12k. But i can not say more.

Also, these cars can not/will not ever handle 800awhp daily, too many weak links in the car after crossing the mid 600awhp mark imo.

Do i think a stock replacement is a bad idea? No, dropping 4k on a crank and leaving it stock just doesnt make sense when you could have a 3.4L which i think is the max if you intend to stay with the stock bore.

Jeff and I talked a lot about this and for the little bit of additional cost, essentially only clearancing the block is needed for the extra displacement as a forged rod is a forged rod and a forged piston is.........Not really worth leaving it stock.
